Explosive Power Through Potentiation

In this program we have Ryan performing Barbell Bulgarian Split Squats into Plyometric Split Squats

The heavy barbell split squat creates post-activation potentiation (PAP).
Then you immediately express that heightened neural drive with plyometric Bulgarians. It might sound a little scientific but the benefits include
-Faster rate of force development
-More explosive hip/knee extension
-Bigger vertical and horizontal power output
-Better first-step acceleration (sprinting, change of direction in any court or field sports.

Our goal is to focus on speed out of both bottom positions using an estimated 65% of his 1RM. These squats can be useful for clients who
* struggle to “find depth”
* collapse the knees or lose bracing at the bottom
* rely too much on hips and not enough on quads
* have a slow or sticky first ¼ of the ascent
* need hypertrophy in quads/VMO
* need smoother tempo control

The added benefits in these squats is that the extra quarter rep increases:
* Quadriceps tension
* Glute tension
* Eccentric control
* Stability at depth

The longer you spend under tension (without losing form), the more strength and hypertrophy you get—especially in the quads.
