It’s that time of the year when the fair weather golfers dust off the clubs, find their shoes and buy a new box of balls. The first taste of spring saw the sun out and the field for Saturday’s Stableford round near capacity.

And if your surname was Phillips then you probably had a good day.

Jason led the way with his outright win, the 28 handicapper showing great consistency with splits of 21 and 20 to just pip Kyle Pitson (17) in a count back. Unfortunately for Kyle he did all his good work on the front nine, turning with 23 points. A costly pick up on the 13th was probably the turning point.

The Phillips family crest was kept proud with both Dwayne (16) and Shaun (7) both finishing with 35 points.

B grade winner Michael Olle turned it on over the back nine. After turning with a moderate 15 points Olle had 2 bogeys and 2 birdies for a PB 35 off the stick and 25 points. Well done Michael.

Slowly getting back to full fitness after his broken leg Anthony Williams gave us a glimpse of what he used to produce on a regular basis. Playing off a sweet handicap of 2, Anth had splits of 35 and 36 for 37 points and the A grade win. Good to have him back.

If you see Karen Panagopolous around, stop and give her a hug. She was delighted with her superb round of 39 points, the highlight being a fantastic birdie on the 4th. But her joy was short lived when she discovered that her 39 points was only good enough for 3rd. She was so disappointed that she even needed Ronda to go with her to Coles in case she sat on the floor of the chocolate aisle and devoured everything in sight. Never mind Pana, you’ll win one day with a lot less points but well done on your score.

So that takes us to our winner - Renae McQuade, also with 39 points. Following her second place last week Renae went one better this week, just hanging on for the win after a three way count back. 4 point pars on the 10th and 15th were crucial in the end, closing out with a solid 21 points. Afterwards Renae was her usual modest self, attributing her new found form to some specialised golf tips. You better watch out Michael she may be better than you one day.

Apart from Pana the other hard luck story belonged to Colleen Tilley. Having one of her best days on the course Colleen parred the 2nd and 14th which were worth 4 points each and despite the last two holes earning her 7 points she fell agonisingly short. Bad luck Colleen, maybe next week.

LADIES RESULTS ⛳️

It has been a few rounds of par competitions of late and it is fair to say it is not a golfers favourite especially if the weather is a bit all over the place. Fortunately we had no rain, firmer fairways albeit a little on the cool side. Scores recorded were pretty reasonable from the winners in both divisions with 28 women teeing off today.

11 women ventured out with the dire weather forecast (all probably deserved a prize 😳) with a mix of a few heavy showers, high gusty wind, even a bit of hail tested them, periodic sunshine did make a brief fappearance.
