Body posture affects and reflects emotional states
A slouched posture assists in the recall of negative memories and emotions (hopeless, helpless, powerless, or defeated). 86% of the population will find it easier to recall negative memories/emotions in the collapsed position
An upright position assists in the recall of positive (empowered or optimistic) memories. 87% of the population find it easier to recall positive memories/emotions in a good postural position
This is partially due to the vagus nerve system, which acts to counterbalance the fight or flight system, and when functioning well will trigger a relaxation response in our body.
The vagus nerve is responsible for digestion, heart rate, breathing, cardiovascular activity and reflex actions. It plays a role in the autonomic nervous system, which controls actions people do unconsciously, such as breathing and digestion. It also forms gut-brain axis.
If it isn’t aligned, your body doesn’t function properly, placing your in flight mode, turning your focus to your fears, anxieties and any other though memory or external influence that may present a negative effect. Your posture could be the reason you see, hear and sense everything bad so often.
Posture is more important that you may realise. This is only one reason.
