I’ve been trying something new lately.
As part of my Reiki training (with hopes of completing my Reiki Master training next year), I’ve been absolutely loving exploring this gentle practice. The heat, sensitivity and intensity I feel in my hands is something completely new to me, and I’m approaching it with curiosity and an open mind.
This week, I trialled something with Maddy, her mum and her her team of angel carers as we set ourselves up around the fire with chilled music and nowhere else to be. We shared the simple intention of calming our nervous systems and giving ourselves permission to completely relax through yin & meditation while I gave Maddy reiki. No fixing. No expectations. Just being together.
Maddy lives with significant physical health challenges and uses a wheelchair and it was beautiful to witness how everyone in the room settled into a peaceful rhythm.
The look of relief & peace on Maddy’s face during and after the session said it all… seeing her eyes sparkle when she smiles warms my heart.
Afterwards, her beautiful mum Traci Traci Ellmer sent me the loveliest message:
“So whatever you did worked wonders for Maddy. She has been relaxed, very calm and happy since the session. Her bowels and bladder have been working really well all week, her heart rate has been really stable and her nights have been super chilled too.”
Was it the Reiki? The co-regulation? The warmth of the fire, the music, the shared intention and presence? I honestly don’t know.
What I do know is that slowing down, feeling safe and being surrounded by caring humans can be incredibly powerful.
Everyone in the room enjoyed the session, and I’m feeling so grateful to be learning, growing and following my curiosity.
Sometimes healing doesn’t have to be complicated.
Sometimes it’s just a room full of good people, soft music, a crackling fire… and permission to rest ❤️
