It’s been nearly two weeks since we completed our greens renovations, and we’re incredibly pleased with how quickly they’ve bounced back. The greens are looking fantastic and, more importantly, are back to rolling beautifully.
For those interested in what goes into the process, here’s a little insight into the work our grounds team has put in behind the scenes.
🌱 THE RENOVATION PROCESS
We started by coring the greens using 6mm hollow Ninja tines to a depth of 2.5 inches. Once completed, the cores were collected by hand, with any remaining material blown clear before topdressing began.
Each green received two applications of sand to help fill the holes. We then worked the sand into the surface using our drag mat, making four passes in different directions over a couple of days to achieve an even finish.
💪 GIVING THE GREENS A BOOST
Following the renovations, we applied two granular products, MP High K 15-0-25 and MP K Cal Plus 0-0-24, to encourage healthy growth, speed up recovery and put the greens in a strong position heading into the warmer months.
✅ THE RESULTS SPEAK FOR THEMSELVES
The recovery has been fantastic. By last Tuesday afternoon, we were already back mowing at our normal cutting height of just 3mm.
The greens are now almost back to full health, with putting surfaces returning to their usual smooth, consistent roll. We’ll continue to monitor their progress closely before returning to our regular foliar and fungicide programs.
👏 A HUGE CREDIT TO OUR TEAM
Perhaps the most pleasing part of the entire process has been the effort behind it.
With just four full-time staff and two casuals lending a hand for a couple of days, the entire renovation was completed in-house, all while keeping the course open for play.
It’s a tremendous effort from a small, hardworking team, and the results are a real credit to the care and pride they put into the course every day.
Two weeks on, the greens are back rolling beautifully, and we’re looking forward to some fantastic conditions over the warmer months ahead.
