...AND THEY CAME A-CAROLING 🎶🎶

The sounds of Christmas rose above Summit Sport and Recreation Park for the very first time on Saturday night for this year's Mt Barker Carols and Fireworks.

With Mount Barker Summit providing a stunning backdrop for the twilight event, the community decked themselves - not with boughs of holly - but in their finest festive clothing and accessories to sing under the stars and see the fantastic fireworks finale.

Congratulations to the organising committee and everyone who contributed to make the night a success.

To see such strong community spirit and connection is why we support events like this through our annual Event Support Program.

The gates have opened to The Outdoor Living and Caravan Expo at Summit Sport and Recreation Park (SSRP).

It's $5 entry all day until 9pm tonight and kids under 16 can get in for free!

This is the first time the expo has been held in South Australia highlighting the versatility of SSRP to attract and stage diverse events that draw visitors to the district.

Great to see such a strong contingent of local businesses and musicians taking part in the expo too - make sure you stop by to check out their stalls and sounds!

AN ASTRONOMICAL ACHIEVEMENT

Summit Sport and Recreation Park (SSRP) played host to hundreds of students from more than 60 schools across the country for the final of Fleet Space Technologies national Launchbox competition last Sunday - the largest gathering of schools with student-built cubesats in Australian history.

Launchbox aims to encourage and upskill students through hands-on satellite building challenges and was just one of the highlights of Fleet’s free community event ‘Summit to the Stratosphere’.

The event also featured drone demonstrations, a weather balloon launch, interactive exhibits and an impressive line-up of guest speakers including Australia’s first female astronaut Katherine Bennell-Pegg.

Despite stormy weather, the student teams witnessed a real satellite launch while receiving real-time data from drones and high-altitude balloons.

Congratulations to Mount Barker High School teams - Shooting4stars and CosmicHorseshoe - for finishing in the top ten of this year’s national competition.

‘Summit to Stratosphere’ was delivered with support from Council and reflects our focus on attracting more events to the region and making Mount Barker district the most liveable region in the state.

SSRP SITE ACCESS CHANGES

In a South Australian first, The Outdoor Living and Caravan Expo will be held at Summit Sport and Recreation Park (SSRP) from Friday 14 November until Sunday 16 November. 🏕️

To accommodate the set up, staging and pull down of the expo, there will be temporary access changes at the SSRP from Monday 10 November until Tuesday 18 November.

Access changes are as follows to keep the community safe, the area secure and to effectively manage extra traffic:

📆 Monday 10 November until Thursday 13 November + Monday 17 November and Tuesday 18 November:

👉 Only pedestrian and cyclist access will be available from 7am until 8pm via the designated shared-use footpath through SSRP.

Please note: the site will be closed overnight from 8pm to 7am.

👉 Vehicle access will not be permitted through SSRP and public access will not be permitted on the main oval.

👉 Please follow the directional signage in place and be aware of increased traffic on site.

📆 Friday 14 November until Sunday 16 November:

👉 SSRP will be closed to the public, including all motorists, cyclists and pedestrians, for the duration of the event.

Every effort has been made to maintain access to SSRP for as long as possible to minimise disruption to residents and SSRP users.

Residents in the immediate area surrounding the SSRP have been notified of these temporary access changes by letterbox drop.
