Unfold Yoga + Wellbeing was established in Mount Barker by Loretta Voivodich in 2012. Loretta has been teaching yoga in the Adelaide Hills for over 15 years and built up a firm following of students who have felt the real difference yoga can make to their physical and mental wellbeing. Unfold offers a full weekly program with yoga classes suitable for all students, from the absolute beginner, to t

he progressive, advanced practitioner. Yoga practice cultivates a healthy body and a calmer mind. Attending classes at our studio you will better understand what you are doing when you practice and why we practice. Learn the art, science, and philosophy of yoga with a teacher! With our team of certified Iyengar teachers you can be sure you will receive quality, expertise, and individualised attention. Teachers at Unfold are caring and professional and have many years of practice, study, and dedicated training behind them. Classes explore the sequencing and technique of Asana (posture) and Pranayama (breath work) to integrate strength and flexibility, moderate the breath, and cultivate steadiness of the body, mind, and spirit. We use props to: explore the various aspects of a posture; to give assistance in the case of injuries or other conditions; and for restorative work. We make individual adjustments and corrections to help students understand and develop their yoga practice. Philosophy and approach are integral to classes and the atmosphere and instruction offer a respectful silence, seriousness, and focused energy, as well as the joy of being in the moment, which brings spontaneity, heightened awareness and a humble and honest approach to your practice. The Iyengar teaching method is oriented towards gradual but steady progress, rather than towards quick and fleeting results. Each Iyengar yoga class is a unique sequence created to guide students through a safe and systematic progression. Through skilled instruction and practice, students learn to penetrate beyond the physical body to the inner kosas (layers) of mind, energy, and spirit thereby gaining vitality, clarity, and calm through the practice. Iyengar yoga can be practiced at all stages of life. The benefits are far-reaching and will assist the practitioner in every aspect of daily living. Our studio is a special place that exudes a sense of calm, joyfulness, hard work, and transformation. It is spacious with natural light, good ventilation and elevated views. The yoga studio is carpeted and adequately temperature controlled for both the winter and summer months. All yoga equipment (including mats) is supplied and parking is available on the adjacent streets.

Lulu Bull shows with clarity and ease: how to do the asana, and hence, how to embody the asana energetically.

With descriptive language, timing and demonstration, yoga becomes an art of self-enquiry and transformation. The teacher facilitates this further with the clarity and depth of their guidance-meeting us where we are.

One week to go, a few spots left. Join us for Lulu’s weekend workshop.

Senior Iyengar teacher Lulu Bull comes to teach annually at Unfold, taking time out from her Blue Mountains Iyengar Yoga Studio to teach in Adelaide. The workshop begins Friday evening with a practice for teachers and more experienced students, it is followed with a General workshop of three sessions on Saturday morning and afternoon, and Sunday morning finishing at 11:30am.

Action - Repetition - Understanding Brings TRANSFORMATION 🙏🏽😊

This week we focused our practice on forward folding and some twists. Here is a short practice of working the folding action of the body, as well as opening the shoulder girdle and upper portion of the back to bring length and access greater extension in the spine.

Following photos are students in standing and seated for ward folds- using a chair to keep the back body from rounding, again bringing a lift of the chest forwards. We keep the theme of extension throughout the whole practice, to keep on refining our ability in each pose, building our efforts and developing the action to make a REAL difference.

Thank you so much to students who participated in our Anzac Day fundraiser at Unfold Yoga + Wellbeing. It was a special opportunity for us to come together in yoga practice for the purpose of raising funds for humanitarian causes.
