🎾 Life Membership for Owen Sounness 🎾
The Mount Barker Tennis Club is proud to announce that Owen Sounness has been awarded Life Membership, presented at the Club's End of Season Lunch at West Cape Howe Wines on Saturday, 27 June 2026.
Owen joined the Club in 1976 and has dedicated almost 50 years to supporting tennis in Mount Barker. During 48 years of continuous committee service, he held numerous leadership roles including Men's Captain, Vice President and President, while also contributing countless hours to fundraising, facility improvements, competitions, working bees and community events.
From helping fund the relocation of the clubhouse and court upgrades to volunteering behind the scenes whenever needed, Owen's passion, leadership and generosity have helped shape the Club into what it is today.
Club President Neil Baines said Owen's contribution has left a lasting legacy.
"Owen's dedication over nearly five decades has helped shape the Club into what it is today. His passion, leadership and willingness to volunteer have inspired generations of members, and Life Membership is a fitting recognition of his outstanding contribution."
Reflecting on the honour, Owen said:
"The Mount Barker Tennis Club has always been about more than tennis—it's about community, and I'm incredibly proud of what we've achieved together. Most importantly, it's where I met my beautiful wife, Lindy, and for that I'll be forever grateful to the Club."
