This week marks 12 months since my last concussion, Orbost show last year I had a very minor โslipโ off a horse with my saddle. After riding all day and doing all the usual jobs that night, the next morning I woke up knowing it was my one hit too many to the head.
A week in hospital, countless doctors appointments later I knew I was in for a longer than I wanted recovery period. Guided by A top Neuro professor I began Neuro rehab, the beginnings of healing all the other aches and pains that go with 23 years of riding lots of different horses (some good and some not so good)! I was told no driving (AT ALL), and to be patient. I went home thought F*^% that Iโll nail this - did the first 3 minutes of rehab exercises and fell off my chair - and crying on my lounge room floor looking at the ceiling not being able to stand back up cause from horizontal to standing seemed impossible I realised that concussion doesnโt care what your plans are - it takes time & patience. With the help of Mum, Glen & Kate at the frontlines of containing & hearing my frustration, heartbreak & hurt I not only survived but thrived in ways I didnโt think was going to be part of my lifetime EVER!
So here I am, slower than I used to be, kinder, the owner of a miniature goat herd & a truckload more patient after my first proper day back in action.
I feel FANTASTIC to be back. ๐ธ๐๐ฆ
