Today’s AO Gold Coast wrap up…
Today saw Bar manager Darren and bowls mate David play game 1 in the knock out pairs winning by 1 shot in a very exciting game against a pair from Ballarat. This saw them progress to game 2 against a strong pair from the ACT. After a slow start saw them 0-9 after 6 ends, but the Lakers spirit kicked in to see them 14 all on end 14. A tight finish saw them fall short by 1 shot on the last end. Great effort by the Lakers. Thanks to all the West Coast bowls supporters!

AO Gold Coast update for Tuesday’s Over 60’s pairs.
Bar manager Darren playing with bowls mate David Dunlop from Port Arlington started the day with a 24 to 7 win over a QLD pair. Followed up with another win 23-6 over a pair from Mentone. Finishing the day with a good win 26-17 over another QLD pair. They have now progressed through to the knockout games at Robina, tomorrow. 😊

Day 5 of the AO Gold Coast wrap up!
Sorry this all happened yesterday!!
Here we go ……
Today’s Games of Men’s 4’s saw the Lakers Team of President Goldy, George, Dwayne & Stephen Field head to Southport. With overnight rain making for Slow Greens! The boys had 1 strong win and 2 narrow 1 shot losses. Great effort boys!
Bar manager Darren played at Benowa with Mick Edward’s (Wbool), and City pair- Brendan Sheehan & Kevin Chiller.
Benowa Greens running at 11 seconds made for tough work on long ends. A similar story of 1 big win and 2 drawn games ( lots of finger crossing on the last few ends from this spectator ) This meant no progression to the knock out games on Friday.
Next game left for Mortlake is Darren playing 60’s & over Pairs next Tuesday!

Day 4 of the AO Gold Coast wrap-up! Sorry a day late I had a busy day yesterday!
Today was the Sectional round of Men’s Pairs-
President Goldy and Dwayne played at Helensvale.Starting off with a Strong 2 Shot Win 👏🏻 against a team from ACT. Game 2 then saw a 2 Shot Loss 😱 to the eventual section winner. Then Game 3 was a 6 Shot Win against a NSW team. Another super effort from the Lakers!
George & Stephen Field played at Nerang, Winning game 1 against a NSW Team by 9 shots. 👏🏻Then cleaning up another NSW Team in Game 2 by 15 shots. 👏🏻👏🏻However dropping Game 3 by 5 shots saw them miss out on winning the section. Great effort from all 4 players.

Day 3 of the AO Gold Coast wrap up.

Today saw Mortlake’s Jackie & Koroit’s Steph Funcke play the Women’s pairs at Benowa. With 2 big wins against a WA team by 14 shots and then a 15 shot win against a USA team from Laguna Beach. Unfortunately game 2 was a narrow last end loss to a team from SA meaning they didn’t progress to the next round😢We’ll done Jackie

Day 2 of the AO Gold Coast Men’s Singles wrap up-
George Draffen played at Southport Bowls Club, winning 2 out of 3 games, defeating an international player from Honk Kong 21-8,however not progressing through his section. Great effort George.
Dwayne Dolling played at Beenleigh, he had a good win over Neale Muller from Vic 21-15, unfortunately lost to a NZ player so not progressing through his section.
President Colin played at Tugun under the landing flight path of Gold Coast Airport! Colin had two wins out of three, including a good win over Robert Dwyer from NSW 21-5. However he didn’t progress though his section. A great effort from the Lakers 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Mortlake is being well represented on the Gold Coast again this year, starting with a 10th place finish from your bar manager, Darren in the 2026 Broadbeach Matador 4’s, and with Mortlake’s Les Johnson finishing in the top 30 with 4 from 8. Great result for Mortlake on the Gold Coast.
