INCIDENTS YOU READ ABOUT ARE ONLY PART OF THE STORY..
When a serious weapon incident makes the news, we hear about it. When police are called, it may become part of recorded crime statistics.
But not every violent or threatening incident involving a weapon ever reaches the police.
In hospitals and other frontline environments, aggression and violence can be managed by staff, security and clinical teams without police involvement. The statistics you see do not reflect reality.
The question isn't whether you believe NSW is becoming "more dangerous". The question is much simpler: if you were confronted with a knife or firearm tomorrow, would you know what to do?
THE POINT ISN'T TO BE AFRAID. IT'S TO HAVE A PLAN.
Distance matters. Position matters. Timing matters. Your ability to recognise what's happening, control your instinctive response and make the right decision under enormous pressure matters.
And these aren't skills you want to encounter for the first time when the weapon is real.
You don't need to be exceptionally fit.
You don't need previous martial arts experience.
You don't need to be an existing student.
You just need to be willing to learn.
The workshop will cover:
* recognising danger and responding before the situation deteriorates
* understanding distance, positioning and movement
prioritising avoidance, disengagement and escape whenever possible
* practical responses to common knife threats and attacks
* practical responses to pistol threats from different positions
* protecting yourself when immediate escape isn't possible
* making decisions while under pressure
* progressively testing those skills in realistic scenarios
WHY LEARN SOMETHING YOU HOPE YOU'LL NEVER USE?
For exactly the same reason we learn CPR.
For exactly the same reason we learn first aid.
Because the first time you need an emergency skill shouldn't be the first time you've practised it.
You cannot control whether someone else carries a weapon.
You cannot control whether the person confronting you is rational, intoxicated, acutely unwell or simply intent on hurting someone.
You can control whether you've prepared for what to do next.
You may never need this training.
But if you ever do, you'll be very glad you didn't miss it.
