Each year, we honour the legacy of Pam by awarding a member who embodies everything she stood for in our gym.

Hard work. Ferociousness. Unwavering support for others.

These aren’t just words — they’re qualities that lift everyone around them.

In 2025, we were incredibly proud to award the Pam Cawthorn Memorial Award to Emily Treanor.

Emily shows up. Every single time.
She puts in the work, no matter the session, no matter the challenge.
She attacks her training with intent and grit, but just as importantly, she lifts everyone else up along the way.

She’s the kind of person who makes the gym better just by being in it.

Pam meant so much to this community, and this award is a way of keeping her spirit alive through people like Emily.

We're celebrating something seriously special...
Rachel Hornsby joining the 1000 club.

Rachel has been part of our community for 5 years, and that kind of consistency doesn’t happen by accident. It’s built on early mornings, long days, showing up when it’s hard, and choosing her health and wellbeing again and again.

1000 classes isn’t just a number — it’s a reflection of commitment, resilience, and the standard she sets every single time she walks through our doors, if sometimes late 😉

Rachel, we are so incredibly grateful for your loyalty over the years.
The energy, attitude, and positivity you bring doesn’t go unnoticed.

Three ways to get the bar overhead — each with a purpose 👊

As you move from Push Press → Push Jerk → Split Jerk, the amount of weight you can lift generally increases from lightest to heaviest.

Push Press: ⬆️
A vertical dip with the bar in the front rack/on the shoulders, then a strong leg drive. The bar moves straight up and you finish by pressing it overhead — no re-bend of the knees once it leaves the shoulders. It’s the quickest movement, but demands more shoulder and pressing strength, which limits how heavy you can go.

Push Jerk: 🎯
A vertical dip and drive from the front rack, but you re-dip under the bar to catch it overhead with bent knees and straight arms. It’s the most efficient option for multiple reps, but requires better timing, balance, and body control.

Split Jerk: ⚖️
Again, a vertical dip and drive with the bar on the shoulders, receiving the bar in a split stance. This allows you to move under the bar further than the Push Jerk and typically allows you to lift the heaviest loads overhead.

Different tools. Different demands. Same goal — efficient movement overhead. 💥

A massive congratulations to the crew who just wrapped up the 8-week Olympic Weightlifting course!
The progress, the confidence, the technique— and the way you all supported each other — was unreal to watch. 💪🙌

From learning the fundamentals to hitting lifts you never thought you’d attempt, every single one of you should be proud of what you achieved.

1,000 Classes for Mehdi! 🎉

A huge shout-out to Mehdi, our 6th inductee into the 1,000 Class Club at Align! 💥

Joining back in January 2020 (just before Covid hit), Mehdi has been a constant ever since — balancing family life, shift work as a police officer, and still finding time to train consistently.

His loyalty, positivity, and welcoming attitude have made a massive impact on our community. Whether it’s a heavy lifting day or a tough conditioning piece, he’s always there encouraging those around him.

And of course… he’s the only person who can crank the Echo Bike at full tilt and still talk non-stop to the poor soul suffering next to him 😂

We’re so grateful to have you as part of the Align family, Mehdi. Here’s to the next 1,000! 💪🔥
