MORNINGTON RACING CLUB ANNUAL GOLF DAY FRIDAY MARCH 20 -

Just a quick note that this terrific annual event is coming up again.

We have entered teams of our Social Syndicate owners for the last 3 years, and I am hoping we can have another crack this year.

This year we move from Mornington Golf Club to the Devil Bend Golf Club. I've personally not taken on the mean fairways of Devil Bend before, but we have a number of owners who are members there, so I will seek advice from them with regards to what to look out for.

It's a great day out with the Ambrose format giving every player the opportunity to make a contribution along the way.

If you are interested in being involved in this event (and you don't have to be a Social Syndicate owner) drop me a line at [email protected]. I will be looking to get on to this fairly quickly as the event is always popular.

SOMETHINGSOSTRONG - A deserved win and an Owner Commitment Nomination --

Hi there - it was fabulous to see the regally bred Somethingsostrong finally break through for her first win on Wednesday. The So You Think 4yo was all at sea with racing in her early days, but has improved with each preparation and this time in has run extremely well in all her 4 starts, culminating in her narrow but brave win at Sale. Jake Noonan took her to the front at the outset, rating her beautifully and kicking clear early in the straight. In a very close finish, our mare's superior racing manners enabled her to hold off the slightly erratic but promising Princess Painton. The first two dominated the betting and then dominated the race with the third horse being several lengths off them.

Congratulations to all her patient owners, but from where I sit particularly to the two Social Syndicate Groups who are in the mare, Peter Curtin's Royal Wattle Syndicate and Rodger Mansbridge's 3660 (Seymour Probus) Syndicate. Both of these Syndicates have waited a long time to get this win, and for many of their members it was their first ever racetrack win.

So thank you to all for your patience and as we expect the big mare to keep on improving, we trust she will add to her tally over the next 12 to 18 months.

In particular the win provided us with another nomination for our Committed Owner of the Year award. Manager Rodger must have had a good feeling about the race as he planned the day with military precision. He was on the train from Seymour to Melbourne at 6am before boarding another train in the city to Sale. That's a bloody long way travel to see a horse if it gets beaten, and too far for any of his fellow Syndicate members to consider joining him on the odyssey! The win no doubt made the long journey back to Seymour seem much shorter.

Nonetheless Rodger and his group will no doubt be very happy if Tony can find a race at Seymour for her next assignment.

And to prove he was there at Royal Sale, Rodger has sent in a couple of photos of himself with Somethingsostrong (Sophia) and Lulu her strapper for the day.

Mystic Vamp Retirement

Well it hasn't been a great couple of weeks with a number of our horses pulling up with issues in races we had been optimistic of success in. For most it has fortunately proved to be just a short setback and the likes of Brilliant Horizon, Bold Suitor and Cinque Ponte will soon return, hopefully bigger and better than ever.

However the news is not so great for our gallant but difficult to get along with Social Syndicate mare Mystic Vamp AKA Dot.

Unfortunately upon inspection the day after her run at Sale it was discovered that she had sustained tendon damage. This certainly explains the extremely awkward way she took the turn that day and her failure to finish off with the gusto we had expected.

It says a lot for her toughness that she still kept trying right to the winning post in finishing 4th. I strongly suspect that without her injury she may have won, but we will never know.

Her damage is not at the upper end of such injuries, but nonetheless the diagnosis has suggested that her best case scenario would have been a return to the races in 12 months time. And there was no certainty of even that.

Tony and her owner John Frankhuisen have decided therefore to retire her from racing and once her injury has settled she will be offered for sale through the Inglis online portal.

While Dot's behaviour both in the stables and on raceday have given Tony and the team some of their toughest ever horse management challenges, there was never any doubting her toughness and commitment once she left the gates.

Thanks to John for letting us have the mare to race for Social Syndicates and big thanks to all of those Syndicates who signed up for her and hopefully have had some real fun on the way.

We hope you will all continue on with us in a replacement horse.

There is no doubt that Dot had more wins in her but racing doesn't always let you write the scripts you want.

For those that were involved in her we are hoping to have a Saturday morning catch up with her before she leaves Greendale. Watch this space.

Not the day we had hoped for, with the stable starting the day with 5 runners across the Sale and Sandown meetings, including what appeared to be 3 serious winning chances, but ending up coming home without a victor .

Down at Sale the Social Syndicates were represented by Mystic Vamp in the 7th race. 4 horses dominated the betting and they finished 1,2,3,4, but unfortunately Dot only battled home into 4th after seeming to have a nice one out one back trail in the run.

The track was lightning fast as evidenced by the track records for 1000, 1100 and 1200 metres all being broken by restricted grade horses on the day. Hopefully Dot pulls up OK as she made the turn awkwardly and didn't seem quite herself in the straight.

Good news is that her behaviour was again very good by her standards - maybe these long float trips are working well for steadying her temperament.

At Sandown Covert Mission was a luckless second in a strong maiden, finishing hard after having to be dragged back and around a wall of horses in the home straight. His winning turn must surely be very near indeed.

In the last race Lucy's half sister Brilliant Horizon was very well fancied, but after having a nice run on the pace dropped out dramatically in the straight. For those that saw the race and were wondering whether she was OK, the good news is that she appears to be, with the oncourse vet diagnosis being cardiac arrhythmia. Certainly it appears at first glance that there is nothing structural wrong which is great news.

And it would be remiss of me to not nominate again Kate and Paul Levins for the Owners of the Day title. They were amongst a handful that made the long trip down to Sale to catch Mystic Vamp in action. But too much racing is never enough for some people and they then trekked back to Sandown to catch Brilliant Horizon race in the last. I'm fairly sure that if Kate had a runner on the Planet Zog that she would find a way to get there!

An effort like that really deserved a winner

And the photos of Mystic Vamp in the mounting yard are also courtesy of Kate.

Hi there - last little Social Syndicates post before Christmas.
There's been a run of meetings at Mornington in recent weeks and Social Syndicates has been a regular presence at them.

Today the stable had 4 runners including Mystic Vamp for Social Syndicates. Dot had been down the highway to Sale on Sunday only to see the meeting abandoned before the race. Today wasn't as suitable a race - 200 metres shorter and drawn the inside gate - but she needed to run. Again she was out of luck when it mattered. After a nice run behind the leader the gaps never really opened in the straight and she went to the line under a hold in the last 50 metres. Fellow stable rep Cinque Ponte had a similar story, looking like she had plenty to offer late but unable to fully express herself due to traffic in front of her.

Interesting that Dot was the calmest that anyone could recall on raceday today. Perhaps it was the long trip to Sale that had settled her, but given her history of racing on adrenaline no one was quite sure how she would go in that state of mind. As it turns she raced with the same intent she always does while giving her handlers a lot less grief.

Of the other runners on the day first starter Foxland just failed to handle the occasion and will likely take a break now, Bold Suitor was disappointing on face value but pulled up with mucus in the nostrils which probably didn't help and Cinque Ponte, like Mystic Vamp, had trouble getting a clear passage in the straight. It was a good improvement on her fist up run and a win may be round the corner for her.

Reflecting on the year, thanks to the many hundreds of you that participated in our Social Syndicates horses this year. Four of our horses won with the highlight being Dazzling Lucy winning up the Flemington straight in January. She is now pregnant to Farnan for those who weren't aware of it. Another highlight was winning a race on our Annual Social Syndicates Mornington raceday with Doubtland Diva.

A merry Christmas to all who read these posts and their families, and more than anything to the demographic that many in Social Syndicates belong to, may everyone enjoy excellent health in 2026

And PS . if you are thinking of a Christmas present for the man, woman or golf club that has nearly but not quite everything, we have around 10% left in our next Social Syndicate horse No Qualms (Earthlight-Sky Princess). Remember no upfront and a modest monthly/annual cost

Another big day at Mornington today with 2 of our Social Syndicate horses stepping out and again well over 100 owners in attendance.

First up we saw our 3yo filly Lady Of Alsace (Hetty) make her long awaited debut in Race 2. She is a filly with considerable attitude and it was pleasing firstly to see Dakotah complete her engagement from start to finish without a major incident. She is a filly who will be likely to learn a great deal from her raceday experience, especially as she raced with horses around her from start to finish. She will need additional ground and perhaps a track with more give in it, but she was competitive without ever threatening to win. She is likely to be back at Mornington in a forntnight over a little more ground.

Four hours and twenty minutes later. we saw Mystic Vamp (Dot) turn out in Race 9. As per usual she was a nightmare pre race needing a small village to help with her saddling. How she can be competitive with the pre race energy she exerts is a wonder, but she almost always is. And she certainly was today. Dakotah gave her a great ride, taking her forward for a change, sitting behind the leader and then getting a split when it was needed, just failing to reel in the leader in the concluding stages.

You have never heard a jockey on a beaten horse receive more raucous applause from her owners in your life, than when Dakotah came back to scale. Today was a big day for Dakotah, being her first day back race riding after over 3 months on the injury list. Hopefully a few wins will not be long coming for her too.

Dot will now continue to step up in distance with a victory surely not far away.

Thanks as always to those who turned out today - we always draw a big crowd at Mornington - and thanks as always to the Racing Club for allocating us our regular area in the Silver Bounty Lounge. The course was particularly busy today with lots of Christmas parties going on, so we were grateful to hold our regular spot.

We look forward to being back at Mornington in a fortnight.

And also as always thanks to Andrea from the PCWS Syndicate for grabbing me a few photos.

NEW SOCIAL SYNDICATE HORSE - NO QUALMS

Just a quick note to let you all know that we have a new Social Syndicates prospective champ available.

No Qualms is a 2yo bay filly by Irish sire Earthlight, a son of Shamardal. Earthlight was an unbeaten Group 1 winning 2yo in England and France, who trained on to further stakes success at 3, before heading to stud in Ireland.

He shuttled to Australia for 3 seasons and his first crop here are now 3yo's. From just 23 runners in Australia he has already sired 2 stakeswinners including unbeaten Perth star King of Light, the favourite for next week's Group 1 Northerly stakes.

Our filly's dam Sky Princess was a winner of 6 races and her 2 foals to race are both dual winners.

No Qualms is currently eating her head off at Mariah and Jake's property on the Peninsula. (see photo) She will likely remain there for another 4 to 6 weeks before being brought back in for her second preparation.

Time will be of the essence with this filly as there is already very little of her left. I have a handful of spots for individuals in one of my Syndicates and there is probably room for 1 more new Syndicate in her as I type.

Usually Social Syndicate arrangements will apply. The filly is leased so NO up front costs and a regular set monthly training fee.

If you are interested in learning more about any of the above, drop me a line at [email protected], call me on 0413 271235, or respond to this post.

Position Available: Foreman/ Head Stable Manager.
Tony & Tom Noonan are looking for an individual to join their TNR leadership team.

We may be a smaller stable but this is a perfect opportunity for the right applicant to lead a young team that is growing & developing.

“What I love is that a lot of our Assistant’s, Foreman’s, & Senior Staff develop the skills & knowledge that set them up for lifelong careers and leadership positions in the Industry. Some even go on to hold their own training licence In the future. Thats the old teacher in me. I get a great thrill in seeing staff who have worked with me for years, progress, learn and ultimately achieve success in what ever path they choose.
We would love someone who is passionate, energetic, has ambition, who of course loves the horses and takes great pride in their work to join our team.“ Tony.

A Social Syndicate winner is always worth more than one post so here are are a couple of the official photos from Monday's special win by Doubtland Diva
The good news is that Suzy has pulled up well, but as per Tony's pre race plan, she will now head for a few weeks break in the paddock to enjoy some sunshine (I'm sure it's coming soon), some nice spring grass and the opportunity to furnish further.
We will hope to see her back on track, bigger, stronger and even swifter in the late summer / early autumn.
We look forward in the meantime to the debut of our other unraced Social Syndicate filly Lady Of Alsace, whose most recent jumpout was also very promising. She's likely to have one more jumpout and we then look forward to seeing her go racing as well
All the best

10/11/2025

Well what a fabulous day we had today at our annual Social Syndicates Raceday event.

It was always going to be a good day, but what turns a good day into a legendary day is having one of our Social Syndicate horses win in front of such a vast and enthusiastic audience.

It's not often a horse wins at its first race start but today it was Doubtland Diva's turn to do just that. Everyone knew she had plenty of pace ahead of the race, but when you are up against expensive unraced horses from big stables you never quite know what you are facing.

Suzy was a little awkwardly away but railed up to take the lead soon after and was never headed to win convincingly, at which point the racecourse just erupted. It was fantastic. We have a terrific mix of owners in this filly - a number of our regulars and always good to see them get a good horse, but a considerable number of first timers who must already think this caper is pretty easy. What all these owners do have in common is the ability to make a truckload of noise in the last 300 metres of a race.

Well done to Tony and the team for being able to successfully target an event at our Annual Raceday (and with a Vobis Bonus too) for her first up run, and great to see Jake grab Social Syndicates another winner

Mystic Vamp resumed in our sponsored race at a distance short of her best, but given how well she had performed first up at Mornington earlier in the year, we had our fingers crossed she could get home from the back and into the money. There was a huge late move in the betting for her too - from $15 10 mins before start time to $7. That's a lot of $5 bets from our owners! She did finish the race off nicely to finish midfield, just running out of puff in the last 100m. All being well her distances will extend from here and she will be back in the winners circle soon.

As for the Raceday function - what a beauty. We had a few issues with the sound system and apologies to those who couldn't hear Tony or myself from time to time, but apart from that I think it went splendidly if I say so myself.

Thanks as always to Emily, Mel and everybody else at Mornington, especially the kitchen and wait staff who did a wonderful job; thanks again to our great supporters at Steeples and Kirks Hotel on the Esplanade who again gave us a series of gift vouchers for prizes, also to our owner Sandy Ashton (San Silversmith) who again offered us two of her hand made jewellery prizes - head to her instagram page to see more; thanks to regular photographer Andrea from PCWS Syndicate and to a new photographer in George from the Breeze in Point Lonsdale for grabbing me some snaps from around the traps

And thank you to all our Social Syndicate Owners and Managers who got behind the event again - we don't have an event (or horses) without your support.

Congratulations to all our prizewinners in the Fashions on the Field with Annie Ratcliffe from Bound to Win taking the chocolates from Katherine McCoy and Laurel Mott in the Ladies.

In the Mens Paul Levins was the winner in top hat and tails (may not have been his idea!), from Dickson Dalgleish and Michael Julian

Karen Winter won the quiz prize when she correctly guessed the knockout question about the size of the steak on today's menu!

All the best - JOHN

Looking set for a day that is bigger than Clive Palmer's un**es tomorrow at Mornington as we celebrate our annual Social Syndicates raceday

We have a big lunch, fashions on the field, punters club, special guests and great prizes again from our regular supporters at Steeples and Kirks Hotel down on the Esplanade in Mornington

Best of all though Tony has targeted 2 of our Social Syndicate horses at the day. Race 5, the Tony Noonan Social Syndicates Hcp, sees the return of the gallant Mystic Vamp. She was just pipped at 50/1 first up at her last prep, and of course Tony won our sponsored race with Acheter last year. So the omens are gathering!

And in Race 3, Suzie, aka Doubtland Diva, makes her much anticipated debut. She has jumped out well and is right in the betting in what appears to be a rapidly diminishing field. Lots of first time Social Syndicate owners in her too.

Jake Noonan has the big job of guiding both to victory - one likely to be from on the pace and the other from the back

Good luck to everybody involved and hopefully we have some good news to report tomorrow night
