Moree Boars Rugby League Football Club β Tribute to Henry Francis "Billy" Girard
The Moree Boars Rugby League Football Club extends its sincere condolences to Thelma, Dennis, Debbie, Joan, the late Jodie, Michelle, Tony, Jamie, and the extended Girard family on the passing of Henry Francis Girard, affectionately known to all as "Billy."
Billy was a passionate and dedicated supporter of the Moree Boars Rugby League Football Club, serving the club with distinction as both a player and coach from the early 1970s. His contribution to rugby league in Moree was immense and his legacy will remain a significant part of our club's proud history.
While Billy's playing career was respected, it was his achievements as a coach that earned him legendary status. Former players often recall that there was no tougher coach when it came to training. Billy firmly believed that success was built on fitness, discipline, and hard work. Many players still remember chasing the glowing red ember of Billy's cigarette during evening training sessions under the old lights, knowing that if they wanted to succeed, they had to keep up. His philosophy was simple: if you were not prepared to train hard, you were wasting your time.
Billy's coaching record speaks for itself. Across ten seasons as coach, his teams achieved remarkable success, winning five Grand Finals, finishing runners-up twice, and reaching the semi-finals on two other occasions.
