🌅Fun fact Thursday🌅
This week’s fun fact comes courtesy of our ongoing research program, formally known as MSRC Meteorological, Statistical, Research Corporation™ (or MSRCMSRC for short). After reviewing sunrise data across the year, we’ve confirmed something we already suspected:

MSRC runners routinely beat the sun out of bed. 🥱

Because sunrise shifts from 5:40am in summer to almost 7:40am in winter, our fixed 6am Tuesday and Friday sessions end up happening in true pre‑dawn darkness more often than you’d think. In fact, the sun has missed more MSRC runs than any member in club history.

We’ll share the exact stat once the lab finishes arguing about “astronomical dawn”, “civil twilight”, and whether the Dry Zone™ counts as its own time zone....

But for now, the headline stands:

📰 MSRC runners: statistically more reliable than the sun.

See you out there:
⏰Tuesday 6am
⏰Friday 6am
⏰Sunday 8am
whether the sun shows up or not.

Another great Sunday morning run. Welcome to the lovely Peter and Tara who joined us for the first time today. Lots of great chats made the run lots of fun. And the post run coffee was pretty good also. Have a great week ahead y'all. Next run Tues 6am.

When we started back in 2015, we had no idea that waking up early and getting sweaty would become so popular. But we’re glad it did, and we love that there’s so much choice now.

At MSRC we’ve always said it’s totally OK to see other groups. We do, and we actively encourage runners to find whatever vibe works for them. Some groups run for PBs, some run for coffee, some run for sandwiches (one day we will travel for that one 🥪), and some run in amazing places.

Every group has its own flavour, and that’s the fun of it. We’re the weekday 6am “get your run done before work” crew, and the Sunday 8am “sleep‑in but not too much” crew. There’s no judging here, just locals getting out and enjoying the paths.

Someone said to us recently: “You should go back, back to doing training runs, events and maybe even exploring new places.” It gave us a bit of a Back to the Future moment. The only problem is we don’t have a member named Marty... yet.

If you are Marty… get your shoes on and come down.

So, we thought about what we used to do and came up with MSRC On Tour. Different locations, different routes, maybe even different distances. A nod to our past with a bit of future sprinkled in.

So tell us below 👇:
Would you come along? What distance do you prefer?
There’s no wrong answer. Even a “no thanks” helps us understand what people actually want.

Oh, almost forgot: We run 6am Tuesday, 6am Friday and 8am Sunday!

6 am is when the magic happens. The moon streams it light across the bay and the sunrise welcomes you back from your run. The not so secret time all should enjoy. If that’s too early try our Sunday run at 8 am - your distance your pace - Mordi Pier.

👟Fun fact Thursday👟
A couple of weeks ago we told you how far MSRC has run since 2015, a distance big enough to make your Maps app sweat.

So today’s fun fact is the natural follow up: If we’ve run that far… what happened to all the shoes that carried us?

Since February 2015, MSRC runners have collectively covered well over 45,000 km together. With most running shoes lasting around 600–800 km, your average member gently ushers a pair into retirement roughly once a year (don’t get us started on those crazy members who run much further).

Add up 11 years of Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays, plus the dozens of runners who’ve joined us along the way, and you get a number that’s wonderfully excessive:

MSRC runners have worn out many hundreds of pairs of shoes. More than Imelda Marcos owned.

Ours don't sit in a wardrobe, though. They live full, meaningful lives on the foreshore, travel to some exotic locations, and definitely get dirty - the kind of dirty that only happens when someone says “let’s try the trail today, it won’t be that muddy”.

Help increase the count and come join a run:
⏰ 6am Tuesday - 5k out and back
⏰ 6am Friday - 15 minutes out, 15 minutes back
⏰ 8am Sunday - 5k or 8k options, followed by coffee

All paces welcome.
Bring your shoes - we’ll treat them kindly… until the kilometres take over.

Seth O'Donnell is hosting a Q&A evening at PhysiPro Athletic in Seaford. It is at 6:30-8:00pm on Friday 28th August. It would be great to have some of the Mordi Crew there.

Join us for an inspiring evening with Seth O'Donnell, as he shares personal insights about his journey from the local tracks of the Mentone Athletic Club, to representing Australia at the Commonwealth Games!

Seth has achieved all this while still managing to juggle a career as a physiotherapist. Hear his thoughts on managing injuries, maintaining workloads and preparing to perform at the highest level.

⛅ Fun Fact Thursday ⛅
Did you know the Mordi Pier has its very own unique weather phenomenon?

It’s called the MSRC 6am Dry Zone™ - A mysterious meteorological event where it almost never rains at 6am Tuesdays & Fridays, or 8am Sundays at the Mordi pier.

We checked the weather archives (yes, actual data — we’re professionals 😎):

6am Tuesday: Dry.
6am Friday: Dry.
8am Sunday: Also dry.
Multiple years of records: Still dry.
Winter: Dry.
Random August dates: Dry.

Scientists have no explanation.
Locals just know.
The weather gods: They’re regulars. They know the drill.

So, if you’ve been waiting for a sign to join us...this is it.
Come run in the world‑famous MSRC 6am Dry Zone™. Where the sunrises are stunning, the vibes are good, and the rain politely waits until we’re finished.

⏰ Tuesday 6am - 5k (out and back)
⏰ Friday 6am - 30 mins (15 out, 15 back)
⏰ Sunday 8am - 5k or 8k, then coffee and chat

Bring your runners, leave your umbrella and poncho at home.
The weather knows what to do, and now you do too 😎🌤️🌅
