Australian wrestler and bodybuilder Paul Graham sadly passed away on 8th May 2026, aged 86. Paul was a prominent figure in Australian strength sports, remembered for his contributions to both professional wrestling and bodybuilding.

During the 1960s and 1970s, Paul Graham wrestled for World Championship Wrestling, often appearing as a special attraction thanks to his impressive and muscular physique. He mostly wrestled part‑time, and he also became well known for his strongman performances throughout the 1970s, several of which drew media attention.

Bodybuilding, however, was Paul’s true passion. He became a promoter and played a major role in bringing elite bodybuilding to Australia. Most notably, he organised the 1980 Mr. Olympia contest in Sydney—one of the most prestigious events in the sport. Paul was deeply connected within the bodybuilding community and counted many legends among his friends. Arnold Schwarzenegger even served as best man at his wedding.

Paul Graham leaves behind a legacy of dedication, showmanship, and unwavering love for the world of strength sports. His impact on Australian wrestling and particularly bodybuilding will not be forgotten.

Lawrence Robert Shreve, also known as the madman from the Sudan, but better known as Abdullah The Butcher turned 85 years old on 11th January. He wrestled in Australia during 1973 and 1974. Happy Birthday to Abdullah The Butcher.

Vic Altavilla has been kind enough to share some more pictures. His dad (Luigi) worked at the Hampton court and Crest hotels at Kings Cross in the 1960's. His mum (Maria) worked at the goldfish bowl. Through their work they were able to meet many wrestlers, and become friends with them. The Altavilla flat in Kings Cross road became a hang out for some of the wrestlers.
