Not the finish we were hoping for, with both our A Grade and B Grade sides falling short in their quest for premiership glory.

Nonetheless, it’s been a huge achievement to have two senior teams back in the competition this season, with both sides finishing right at the pointy end and giving themselves every chance on the big stage.

A sincere thank you to all of our players, sponsors and supporters for your commitment and support throughout the year. Your hard work, dedication and backing of the club make everything possible, and we’re incredibly grateful to have such a strong community behind us.

A mixed bag of results this weekend, with the B Grade booking their spot in the Grand Final, while the A Grade will need to take the long way home after a loss to Paskeville.

The A Grade batted first and had their scoring heavily restricted by a disciplined Paskeville bowling attack. Solid innings from Maidment (43) and Crosby (28) in the middle order allowed the boys to post a modest total of 114 for the bowlers to defend.

After having Paskeville at 3/42 leading into the drinks break, a couple of missed opportunities either side of the interval proved extremely costly. Paskeville eventually gained momentum and passed the total with seven overs to spare.

The B Grade also batted first and were again led by veterans Carter (42) and Pierson (25) to post a competitive 9/140 from their 40 overs.

With the ball, early wickets to Durdin and Pierson had the opposition in trouble at 5/61. However, momentum shifted following a 49-run sixth-wicket stand that brought the game back into the balance. The 34th over proved pivotal, with Ravenscroft snaring the key wicket of Collins and triggering a late collapse of 4/10 to secure a 20-run victory for the Dees.

Well done to the B Grade boys on making the Grand Final in their first season back after many years.

Having earned the double chance, the A Grade will take on neighbours Arthurton at home this weekend for the right to play Paskeville in the Grand Final in a fortnight’s time.

The final minor round game of the year saw victories for both the A and B Grades, confirming their positions at the top of their respective ladders at the conclusion of the minor round.

The A Grade was once again sent in to bowl first, restricting the opposition to a competitive 149 on the fast outfield at Paskeville. A solid opening partnership, followed by another strong second-wicket stand, ensured the boys cruised home in style, finishing with nine wickets in hand and seven overs to spare.

The B Grade match followed a similar pattern, with the boys bowling first against fellow finals contender, Bute. Contributions across the board restricted the hosts to 97, with Ricky Mackereth the standout performer, claiming an impressive 3/0 from just two overs. Although the run chase began on a slightly shaky note, it was always under control, with young guns Jack Ravenscroft and Sean Durdin steering the side to a comfortable six-wicket victory.

Both teams have now qualified for their respective second semi-finals in Week 1 of the major round. The A Grade will face Paskeville at Wallaroo, while the B Grade will take on Wallaroo at Bute, with the winners progressing directly to the Grand Final.

Mixed results this weekend, with the B Grade recording a close win while the A Grade were on the wrong side of the ledger against Wallaroo.

The A Grade match saw another strong bowling performance, restricting the visitors to 123 from their allotted overs. Unfortunately, regular wickets meant the run chase never really gained momentum, with the boys eventually falling 22 runs short.

After making the trek south to Ardrossan, the B Grade boys batted first and piled on a mammoth 211 from their 40 overs. The innings was spearheaded by a brilliant 108 from the ever-vocal skipper, Sam Carter, which included 18 boundaries. Well done, Carts! Ardrossan got off to a flying start in their run chase, reaching 0/120 at the 20-over mark. From there, the boys fought back hard with the ball, restricting Ardrossan to just 79 runs from their final 20 overs to seal a hard-fought win.

With one round to go, the B Grade remain on top of the ladder, while the A Grade sit comfortably in second place. This week’s matches are both away, with the B Grade travelling to Bute and the A’s making the trek to Paskeville.

This week saw the B Grade enjoy the bye, while the A Grade hosted Kadina at home.

A disciplined bowling performance set the tone early, restricting the visitors to just 109 on what proved to be a tricky batting wicket.

The run chase was anything but straightforward. Regular wickets fell and momentum was hard to find, with the scoreboard reading a worrying 7/56 at one point in the 27th over. Enter Marcus “Funky” Kerin. A brilliant knock of 39 from 47 balls — including a six in the final over — guided the boys home in a nail-biter, securing victory with just one wicket in hand and 5 balls to spare.

This week, the A Grade are back at home against Wallaroo, while the B Grade travel to Ardrossan to take on the Crabs.

That feeling you get knowing cricket is back this weekend is almost as good as the feeling after lathering a six over cover — hey, Marcus Kerin.

While the A Grade enjoyed another bye, the B Grade were hard at work at home, taking on Paskeville.

A strong performance with the bat, led by Marcus “Funky” Kerin and Sean “The Great Wall” Durdin, saw the Dees post another impressive total of 178.

With the ball, Ricky Mackereth once again led the way, well supported by the mystery spin of Harprabhreet Singh, as Paskeville fell well short of their target. It was also great to see club stalwart Daniel Steele and young gun Bede Mackereth among the wickets for the Dees.

Both teams now enjoy an association bye before the A Grade return to action on January 31 against Kadina.

Senior cricket returned for the second half of the season, and the boys made a fantastic start, getting wins in both the A Grade and B Grade.

The A Grade, led by Tom Trumper with a well-compiled 50, set up a competitive total batting first on a lightning-fast Arthurton Oval. Richard ‘Dick’ Crosby then took control during the bowling innings, winding back the clock to claim four wickets in the 20 run win.

At home, Captain Sam Carter top scored with a swashbuckling 63 to lead the B Grade to a mammoth 5/203. In reply, Port Broughton were never able to get going in the chase, with Alby Pierson and Ricky Mackereth putting on a masterclass to have them all out for 125.

It was great to see another father-and-son combo take the field, with Ricky Mackereth sharing the field with his son Bede in his first senior game for the club. Well done, Bedo!

Next weekend sees the A Grade have the bye while the B Grade takes on Paskeville at home.
