2026 Tennis Victoria League Championships Preview
A staple on the calendar for Moolap Tennis Club, the Tennis Victoria League Championships return this weekend, bringing together premiership-winning teams from across the state to battle it out for the title of State Champions.
The 2026 event is set to be the biggest yet, with 144 teams competing across the Open and Women’s competitions. There’s even more on the line this year, with the event potentially feeding into an inaugural national championship, raising the stakes for club players across Victoria.
Moolap will once again be well represented, with two teams making the trip up the highway: two-time State Champions Two Phones Chol, and 2024 runners-up The Zing Kings.
The Zing Kings will line up in Section 6 at Dendy Park, with captain Mark Core quick to highlight the group’s focus after securing their Triples premiership last year.
“Getting back to State Champs was always the goal. It’s a great weekend and we’re really looking forward to it, especially the pub on Saturday night.”
Teammate Brad Canny is embracing both the challenge and the occasion.
“I’m looking forward to a weekend away with some of my mates (and Jake), and the chance to play at Dendy Park, a fantastic venue with a bit of a Roland Garros feel on the clay courts.
I enjoy the competition and the opportunity to get out of your comfort zone and face teams you wouldn’t normally play. The doubles-only format isn’t something I usually play, but that’s all part of the challenge.”
Meanwhile, Two Phones Chol will take to the courts at Melbourne Park in Section 3, with the two-time State Champions looking to add another title to their already impressive résumé.
Two Phones stalwart Callum Davey highlighted what makes the weekend so unique.
“State Champs is a great experience, and it’s not just about competing and trying to win, although we’ve been lucky enough to find out that part’s pretty fun over the years.
It’s the moments you can’t script, like seeing someone you just played in a final sitting in the gutter with a cigarette, processing what just happened, or the chance to play new opponents at fantastic venues you wouldn’t normally experience.
More importantly, it’s about the people you go with, the laughs you share, and the memories you create as a club.
We’re really excited to play at Melbourne Park this year, and even more excited to get around and support the other Moolap team coming along. If you’ve never been, it’s well worth it, you won’t regret it!”
Club President Matt Pettigrew spoke highly of the event and its importance to the club.
“It’s one of the best weekends on our calendar, a great opportunity to connect as a group and compete against clubs from across the state.
We always go up together, support each other, and enjoy the experience. I’m disappointed I can’t be there this year, but I wish all our players the very best of luck. I know they’ll represent Moolap proudly.”
A special shoutout also to Leopold Tennis Club, who will have two teams competing this weekend. We wish them the best of luck as well.
We’ll have updates across the weekend, stay tuned!
Let's Go Moolap!
