TODAY’S LOWER BODY SESSION
A good lower-body session doesn’t need to be complicated. Today was a combination of running, compound strength movements and unilateral work to train the legs from different angles.
3km run
A short run to increase body temperature, elevate the heart rate and prepare the body for the session ahead.
Hip thrusts
A great exercise for targeting the glutes, particularly through hip extension. They’re a staple for building lower-body strength and improving glute strength.
Forward lunges
A unilateral movement that works the quads, glutes and hamstrings while also challenging balance, coordination and stability.
TRX squats
The TRX provides a little assistance while still allowing you to work through a full squat pattern. Great for developing lower-body strength and improving squat technique.
Goblet squats
A simple but effective squat variation that targets the quads and glutes while also requiring core stability and an upright torso.
Sumo deadlifts
A compound movement targeting the glutes, hamstrings and inner thighs, while also building overall posterior-chain strength.
The benefit of combining different movement patterns is that we’re not just training one muscle we’re developing strength, stability, coordination and muscular endurance across the entire lower body.
