The first complete map of a platypus genome has just been released, and it's every bit as strange as you'd expect from a creature with 10 s*x chromosomes, a pair of venomous spurs, a coat of fluorescent fur, and skin that 'sweats' milk.

Some of the Platypus that were viewed on the Pioneer River at Mirani yesterday afternoon ,this river has an amazing population of these cool little critters :) along with one of my favorite birds the Azure Kingfisher :)

Had a great afternoon viewing the local Raptors :) love these birds of prey they are such cool characters, the way they look back at you as if to say this is my river respect it , 4 species in total ,first was a juvenile White Bellied Sea Eagle then a couple of Osprey guarding their eyry [nests] .
Then another great find and I think from my searches it's a Grey Falcon or possibly a Australian Hobby not real sure on this ID my pic really doesn't match any that I've found on the net or in my Simpson and Day Field guide [please correct me if I'm wrong]. Then to finish off was a beautiful Brahminy Kite , it's amazing what you can see if you go looking . The upper reaches of the Pioneer river is a special place and needs to be looked after.
