Hard to believe this was 4 years ago , it's been a windy wet start to 2026 , haven't had a chance to get on the flats so far this year unfortunately.

Justin organised a trip with a few mates to come and target some barra on fly . First session before the strong winds kicked in Robin landed 1 from 4 sight cast off the Xplore and . Not bad for his first attempt at flyfishing for barra in his late 70s , they are a bit different to trout 😁.
Then the next session Justin and John had some shots but the barra wouldn't eat the flys.
It was difficult in the wind and rain so I switched them to topwater lures and plastics and they had some fun with some rats also missing and losing some much bigger fish but that's barra.
A pleasure getting you guys onto your first barra and showing you our lakes.

Took advantage of a windless morning to sight fish some barra off the and Xplore 12 with fly.
Only 3 landed from 6 hooked they weren't in the best mood with many others only following all the way to the boat and not committing. Had to change flys 3 times to get bites, was it the flys or just their mood ?. Then as the sun got higher change the Titan intermediate to the Int sink 2 sink 3 to get deeper faster to get the last hookup. They keep you thinking.

Took advantage of a very rare lately 🤦 windless and rainless day and had a fun session sight fishing barra off the screen with the and Xplore 12 sounder .

Sonar Striper WF-9 Int the line of choice with 6 from 10 landed for the session with quite a few others only following and refusing the fly.
Love catching barra on fly 😁

Good mate John Schofield sent me a few of the flys he's tieing up for for sale in the shop. Modelled off the pattern I originally tied up for fishing them off the . John as usual has improved this fly pattern by changing the stinger hook lanyard connection from mono to multi strand wire and it's been very successful.
They are on the wall at Headwaters under the Flytime name there's also some of John’s very successful available.

Some father son fishing fun for Brendon and Darcy . 7 year old Darcy was over the moon with his 1st barra on topwater to finish off the afternoon session after missing 3 others and seeing dad get busted off by a much bigger fish in timber.
A pleasure guiding you guys and showing you Teemburra , you did well considering the windy conditions we had to deal with, that's the beauty of Teemburra there's always back bays with calm water to enjoy out of the wind.

Great to have Justin from on the deck of my boat again and get him onto some nice barra that were sight cast to off the and Xplore 12 sounder . a great bloke and caster had some fun with some sight cast barra with fly off the Xplore and Mega Live 2 at Teemburra and Kinchant dams, after a tough day on the flats casting to permit that didn't cooperate in very windy conditions, he got to see a lot of permit and some big tails for the day and landed a few small cobia of a stingray.

It was great to have good mate John Schofield come up for a visit for some Barra on fly fun.
All the barra were sight cast off the Xplore 12 unit with the Mega Live 2 and the , sink 2 sink 3 fly line . It's been 9 years since he's been up here and certainly alot differnt to targeting them like we did all those years ago at night with DK dancer flys . He also got into some nice sooty's on fly and lure in the Pioneer river.
I took him into town to meet Justin and to check out the shop.
Some of John's tandem hook Barra fly's may soon be available through the shop, keep an eye on page for details on them.

.hook_fishing and his 2 mates Michael and Lennard are over from Germany and were keen to try some barra fishing. Robin is a pro staffer / Guide and tournament angler over there. The guys had a great morning session landing 9 from 15 hookups on fly and lure, all sight cast off the Xplore and mega live 2. A pleasure guiding you guys and getting you hooked up to some fun sized barra 🤙
