SMW Rovers Football Netball Club

A Group for all members, players, ex-players & supporters of the SMW Rovers Football Netball Club

SMW Rovers is a country Football club made up of three small towns Streatham, Mininera and Westmere. The Rovers Football Netball Club fields 3 football teams; Seniors, Reserves and Under 16’, and has a very strong Under 12 / Auskick program, along with 6 netball teams. Rovers pride themselves on being a very family orientated club with plenty of fathers/sons, mothers/daughters and brothers/sisters playing in the red white and blue for a very long time. Our facilities are amongst the best in the league, whilst our playing surface is second to none, hosting 2 finals this year including the Grand Final. We have a tremendous team of volunteers and supporters who year after year make our club a pleasure to be involved with. We are strong financially and socially with many events throughout the season. Our training nights have usually been Monday or Tuesday night in Ballarat, Tuesday night at Mininera and all together at Mininera on Thursday nights. Tea is available on Thursday nights and is a place for the locals to come and socialise with the players

We’re thrilled to share that funding has been secured for a lighting upgrade at Conna Wilson Reserve!

The project will deliver four new light towers, energy-efficient LED lighting and an upgrade to the reserve’s power supply.

This is a huge bonus for SMW Rovers FNC, and our wider community, providing safer training conditions, greater flexibility for training and improved facilities for our current and future players.

A massive thank you to Ararat Rural City Council and the Victorian Government for supporting this important project and investing in the future of our club and community

𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭

We’re thrilled to announce that Reserves coach Lachlan Fisher will return to the role in 2027!

This will be Fish’s third season in the role, after narrowly missing out on a finals berth in 2026.

Fish has been an important part of our senior coaching group and is keen to continue building on the progress made, while working alongside new Senior Coach Paul Phillips.

We’re looking forward to seeing what Fish and the Reserves can achieve in 2027!

𝐂𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭

We’re delighted to announce Paul ‘Birdy’ Phillips as our Senior Coach for season 2027.

Birdy returns to SMW Rovers after previously being part of our senior coaching ranks in 2025 as a Development Coach.

He brings to the role a wealth of football experience, having held coaching roles at Lexton, Creswick, Learmonth, Ballarat Masters and most recently Redan, as well as decades of playing experience at senior level, including representing Australia at Masters level.

Birdy can’t wait to crack in with our talented young list, with a real passion for player development, building a strong team culture and getting the best out of those around him.

We also warmly welcome wife Nalina, and their three girls Paisley, Amara & Cienna to the club, and can’t wait to see what the next chapter holds.

We’re thrilled with this appointment and look forward to seeing Birdy lead our senior group into an exciting 2027 season.

Welcome back, Birdy!

After four years as our Senior Coach, Jake Carr has decided to step down from the role to spend more time with his young family.

We sincerely thank Jig for his commitment, leadership and everything he has given to our club over the past four seasons.

We wish Jig, Eden and the two girls, Phoenix and Chloe, all the very best for whatever comes next.
