Damo is on his way home!

Ten days on after his accident during qualifying of the F1H2O Grand Prix of Sharjah, Damon will fly back to Sydney tonight.

Damon would like to personally thank everyone who supported with donations to help get him home and recovered, the amazing hospital staff as well as the Sharjah Marine Club for everything they have done.

Damon would also like to say thank you to all of our friends, followers, sponsors and crew for all the support during the year and special mention to the Comparato Team and Massimo from Baba Racing for the season together.

A second surgery will be required within five weeks and a long road of rehabilitation and recovery still to go but we are so happy and grateful to have Damo coming home.

We are relieved to report that Damon’s Surgery today was a success.

The surgeons have expressed they are happy with how the operation went. In the coming days, Damon will undergo further scans to confirm whether or not a second surgery is required.

Either way, the positive news is that if a second surgery is required, it is no longer deemed an emergency, meaning that a second surgery could potentially take place back in Australia.

Damon is moving his legs and is now able to move around in his hospital bed.

We are overwhelmed by the amount of support and love shown around the world for Damon.

Today Damon has been transferred to a different hospital where he has been seen by another team of surgeons who have advised they are planning on potentially performing the required surgery on Christmas Eve.

The surgeons are quite concerned about his spine, as he has multiple vertebrae fractures, with one completely shattered causing fragments to move into the spinal canal.

The medical team have also mentioned there is a possibility that he will need a second surgery but at this stage they are hoping for just the one pending the results of a re-scan.

Damon is aware of the comments and messages of support, but he is struggling, so he isn’t in a condition to be able to get back to you all, but please be assured he is aware and appreciates everyone’s kind words and thoughts.

We would like to acknowledge the St. George Power Boat Club & Australian Formula Powerboat Grandprix for arranging a GoFundMe page. This was not expected but it has taken a weight off the family’s shoulders knowing we have some assistance to put towards the medical costs. Thank you to everyone who has donated or who offered to create a fund page - it is truly appreciated.

Lastly, to Ahmed Al Hosani of Sharjah International Marine Sports Club - thank you for going above & beyond to ensure Damon has the best possible care. Your guidance and assistance in navigating this overwhelming situation is an amazing act of kindness.

As most of you are aware, Damon had an accident today in qualifying at the F1H2O Grand Prix of Sharjah.

Damon took a massive impact and was injured which required him needing to be removed from the boat with the assistance of the rescue team.

Damon is now in ICU and in a stable condition. The hospital are still trying to remove all the water from his lungs and once cleared, he will go in for surgery on his spine to attend to a fractured vertebrae.

We are forever grateful to the Osprey Rescue Team who saved Damon today. Thank you for all you do to keep us drivers as safe as possible when things go wrong.
