Don River Dash 2026 completed for another year.
Saturday went really well, with no mechanical issues. The Buggy felt great, so we did some maintenance and a bit of shock tuning to prepare for the big holes on Sunday.
Then came Sunday…
(we put the pit crew to work!)
The Buggy was feeling great with the adjustments. Unfortunately, we lost the alternator belt on Lap 1 going through a water crossing. We pulled into the pits and had a new belt on in record time.
Back out for Lap 2 and the alternator failed!
We managed to contact the crew, and Flab raced back to the race trailer to grab the spare alternator and another belt. We pulled back into the pits, and the whole crew hustled to get the alternator changed which came with a few dramas of its own!
Back out onto the track to finish Lap 3, and then we rolled the car on the way back.
Miraculously, it landed back on its wheels after flipping twice, with no damage! Somehow, though, it managed to throw the power steering belt. Tony then fought the car all the way back without power steering.
After all of that, we still managed to finish all 6 laps and bring home 3rd in class! 🏆
You’ve gotta respect the river and it definitely kicked our butt on Sunday!
A massive effort from the whole crew to keep the Buggy going and get us to the finish.
We’ll be back next year, determined to come away with an even better result!
