Homoerotique - A Journey from Text to Subtext - and Back Again.

You are invited to a Talk and Workshop focusing on everything from homoeroticism to q***rcoding to LGBTQIASB+ representation in literature and media.

Arts Mildura Hub
39 Langtree Ave, Mildura
Friday 23 Sept 6-9pm

Sian Harris will lead a talk looking at literature from the Epic of Gilgamesh to Y**i; from The Picture of Dorian Gray to Slash Fanfiction.

There will be a workshop where people can create their own piece of media that explores themes touched on in the talk. This aims to be a fun, tantalising, educational evening of literature and art that will be at times gaudy; radical; painful; and full of joy.

This is a free event for everyone aged 16+. The venue is wheelchair accessible, has gender neutral toilets, this is a calm and alcohol-free event.

Register here whenever you can www.artsmildura.com.au/event/homoerotique-a-journey-from-text-to-subtext-and-back-again/ or just show up!

Let us know if you have any specific accessibility needs and if you need a lift, we will do our best and would love to see you.

An update:

Mallee Pride is planning to wind up and end. We will ask members to vote on this in the coming months.

Before this vote, we will deliver two projects we already have funding for. Watch this space for updates soon!

We are excited about making space for people to come together, see old and new friends, celebrate the last three years of Mallee Pride, and say goodbye.

While there is sadness and uncertainty within our community at this time, two new groups have risen from the ashes of Mallee Pride, and we are very excited to share more info with you when the time is right. This isn't really the end; it is time for change and new growth.

Thank you for being part of this community.

The resource builds on the rural and regional LGBTIQ+ Equality Roadshow and Regional Communities of LGBTIQ+ Practice that have been happening across Victoria since 2016.

The Rainbow Ready Roadmap has a set of tools, including a checklist and assessment tool, so that people in their region, town, organisation or group can assess what needs to happen so they are even more welcoming and inclusive of LGBTIQ+ people. There’s also guides for everyday settings and everything you’ll need to create a local LGBTIQ+ action plan.

For more information: https://www.vic.gov.au/rainbow-ready-roadmap

You’re invited to this information and engagement session to:

find out more about the Rainbow Ready Roadmap and how it can be used locally;

On the last Friday in August, we go purple for Wear it Purple Day! And while a cute-as morning tea or lunch event or school assembly might be in the works in your world, you might be wondering: what exactly IS Wear it Purple Day?

Well! Wear It Purple Day started back in 2010 in response to the alarming rate of bullying and discrimination that LGBTQIA+ youth were facing.

In 2022, Wear It Purple Day falls on August 26, and it's still a chance for workplaces, schools, organisations and individuals to stand up with pride and allyship in support of LGBTQIA+ young people. Because you know what – q***r young people are still unfortunately facing discrimination, and that needs to be fixed.

As you can imagine, it's a day and a cause and a mission that's SUPER close to our heart – so you better believe we're going all out for the occasion!

Want to know more about Wear it Purple Day? Head to Wear it Purple for loads of resources, articles, stats and more – and we'll see you ALL on August 26!
