Well after a massive day and night we have arrived home safely after our first ever wingless race, the race was fast and it was good weather, bit of wind around but that's about it, the track was beautiful for our first heat, bj and I had never experienced a race on clay before and we where sh****ng bricks going into it.... but once we got out there it all come natural and we just did what we had been longing to do, starting at the back of an 11 car field we both happend to set our cars up pretty good, this allowed us to actually feel confident and semi in control, we worked our way up through the field actually having our own little battle and coming away from the first heat with bj in 5th pos and me finishing in 6th.... we shocked ourselves I think....
2nd heat.
We decided to leave the cars as they where. We went out having to start at the back again (because we are rookies) this time the track condition had severely deteriorated, bj and I both struggled to deal with the extremely rough high line and the very slick tiny low line, the rest of the field left us behind fighting our own battles, nearing the end of the heat ranga/me lost power steering making the car a handful in the rough chewed up track, we finished in last and second last In this heat, as I was driving out of the track little Did I know that my power steering pulley had dropped off and the belt had snapped..... putting me out for the rest of the night.... we had brought the wrong spares to that race....
Heat 3
This heat was bjs fastest heat, the track had been re worked and was beautiful again, bj started last in a now only 9 car field. The flag dropped and bj was left to chase, keeping the pace bj was held up by the two car battle infront of him, bj being the faster car out of the now three car battle was painful for me to watch because I wanted to see what he could do if he got around, but unfortunately trying to get around two battling cars on your first night out proved very difficult. Bj finished up 9th in this heat but was easily a 6th or 7th running car.
The final
The track was once again a very nice track, it had gone nice and slick evenly, you could take just about any line, bj started in 8th pos out of what was ment to be a 11 car field, which for his first night I thought was pretty cool, the flag dropped and bj was off keeping up nicely ! When suddenly the 2nd pos car spun infront of everyone causing a 2 car crash putting 2 cars out and leaving the posititon 2 car to start at the rear. Bj now was sitting in 5th with a very good (young lady driver might I add) behind him, bj now had a decent battle on his hands, he was not only keeping the young las away but he was also trying to pass the guy infront that he had been battling for majority of the night, 3 laps to go and the young las had passed bj working her way back up, bj still had not got by the sa posintion 5 car, coming very close to getting it done bj finally ended up finishing 6th in the final which is awesome ! Good driving and kept it clean.
