Round 7
With the great Newey Field playing host once again, the Eagles welcomed the Bandits for what, on paper, looked like a competitive hit-out. In reality, it turned into a bit of a clinic from the boys in blue.
After a week off from the pen (purely workload management, nothing to do with motivation levels), the report returns and thankfully, so did the Eagles’ bats.
The Eagles didn’t waste time getting underway. Wakefield and Rowdy set things up nicely at the top, combining smart hitting with patient at-bats to generate early pressure. The result, immediate scoreboard control.
Pallot was tasked with pitching duties, and the Bandits responded well, putting together a couple of quality hits. Some defensive decisions (best described as vintage 2024 brain fades) helped them bring in two runs. Credit to the Bandits, they took their chance and showed they were up for it early.
Eagles 5–2
The Eagles kept ticking along, casually adding two more runs. Rowdy and Ronan continued their personal vendetta against Bandits pitching, picking up their second hits for the game. Nips found his groove and started to limit opportunities, closing things down efficiently.
Eagles 7–2
Riley Halupka got things going in a big way, sending one over right-centre for his first home run with the Eagles. What followed was less an inning and more a group project where everyone actually did their part. Top, middle, and bottom order all chimed in while the Bandits watched on like confused extras. Ten runs later, the Eagles had fully shifted into “this again?” mode. The Bandits had a brief opportunity to respond, but a well-executed 5–3 play ended the threat.
Eagles 17–2
A quieter inning by the Eagles, but still productive. A couple of quality at-bats, highlighted by hits to Law and Pitt, resulted in three runs being added. Pallot continued dealing, making it very clear that the Bandits weren’t getting a sequel to their first-inning cameo.
Eagles 20–2
The Eagles were finally held scoreless, credit to the Bandits for tightening things up defensively. However, they couldn’t add to their own tally, and the mercy rule brought the game to a close.
Eagles 20–2
A strong all-round performance from the Eagles, built on early momentum and consistent contributions throughout the lineup. The Bandits showed glimpses, particularly early, but couldn’t quite build on them as the game went on.
