WA STATE TITLE

Definitely a night to forget for us. It started with going upside down on the first lap of practice (rider error). The boys went to work fixing the broken bits while we went out on the spare bike. As soon as we hit the track we noticed the bike was extremely flat, would not even turn the rear tyre at full throttle. We decided to park it up and focus on the main bike.

First heat it ran ok, the track was super slick after some water so we cruised it home in 2nd place.

Second heat she struggled to come off the line, but seemed to clear up and run fairly reasonable. Another 2nd place.

Heat 3 we managed to get the win but the bike was struggling, it was on and off like a light switch, limped it home.

We went to work stripping and cleaning the fuel system, thinking we had it sorted we took it out in heat 4.

Heat 4 we went from last to first, back to last, back to first, and ended up second. Once we got it back to the pits we realised the fuel pump was stuffed so that was the end of the race bike.

We jumped on the spare bike for the B final, knowing full well we had about 1/2 the horsepower it should have.

It came off the line...just. A lot of clutching to get her moving! From last we managed to roll the inside and claw our way into second, which we were both happy with. From there we noticed the leader continuing to run wide, and we managed to sneak up the inside on the last lap. We held on after a final corner dive bomb to take the win.

Coming out of gate 4 with a bike not running properly was never going to end well, we circulated for a 4th in the final.

Massive congratulations to Darren Nash & Ash Shield on a well deserved win!

After the meeting we realised both the battery and charging system on the spare bike were not up to scratch, so we think that may have been the problem.

I can not that my team enough. My old boy Mick from Road & Race Motorcycles put a ridiculous amount of time, effort and money into giving us the best chance possible to win this meeting. Unfortunately a crash in practice, and some faulty parts lead to a shocker of a night but we are safe and ready to fight again in a few weeks time.

We will come out swinging at the Gittus memorial 👊🏼

Cheers crew 🤙🏼

We’ve been so busy over the last month we missed the post meeting write ups for the fist 2 meetings!

In a nutshell, in the season opener we went 2 wins and 2 seconds giving us 2nd pick for the final, finishing a tight 2nd behind Nash/Shield.

The following meeting we went 5 starts 5 wins, which we were very happy with!

Looking forward to trying to back that up tonight, see you there 😎

MILDURA SIDECAR SPECTACULAR

A much better weekend for the team this time around in Mildura. For the second meeting in a row we went 4th fastest in the dash for cash. Heading into our 4th heat, we had only dropped one point to Darrin Treloar so things we going well.

Heat 4 saw us grab the early lead but have another issue with the bike heading out of turn 2, ending with a 4th place which all but ruined our chance of a direct transfer into the A final. This will give us something to work on over the offseason.

Heat 5 we missed the start big time, ended up with a 3rd behind Gates & Cohen. We managed the fastest lap of the race but that means nothing when you blow the start and the blokes in front are Aussie Title contenders!

With gate 3 in the B final we knew we needed a good start, which didn’t happen unfortunately. It was once again Cohen and Gates in front, with Brodie getting the last transfer into the A. Yet again we posted the fastest time in the B final, but just not fast enough to make a pass. I can confirm that Mildura dirt in your face hurts!

All in all, we had a great weekend. We proved to ourselves that we have the speed to run with the top guys, we just need to have some better starts and try push harder to make passes if we do miss the start.

Unfortunately it’s looking more and more likely that it will be our final ride of the season as more and more meetings get canceled or postponed 👎🏼 We will just have to wait and see!

Thanks to everyone involved in making it possible for us to race over east, it really is an awesome experience.

MILDURA SIDECAR MASTERS

To say it was an up and down weekend is an understatement!

The trip started off a bit late, but thanks to JessicaandMichael Murphy from Nexdem Pty Ltd we got the big truck on the road. We rocked into Mildura around 3:30am local time on Saturday morning.

After a bit of work on the bike Saturday arvo, we hit the track for some practice. Everything went well and the bike felt unreal, Michael Liptrott did an awesome job yet again at the teams headquarters Road & Race Motorcycles producing possibly the best FZR motor in a speedway sidecar.

Next was the dash for cash. If it wasn’t for me pushing a bit hard into turns 3 & 4 it might have been a perfect lap, but we managed 4th with only 1 tenth of a second separating the top 4.

Race 1, we got a great start from gate 3 and went around the outside of the boys in turn 2 to grab the lead. That’s about where the good stuff finished! I threw it into 3 a bit hard and almost backed it around, causing the 3 bikes behind me to come together. I was the only bike to get out of turn 4, but was excluded for causing a stoppage.

Race 2, again another good start. Got pushed a little wide in turn 3, mainly because I was a bit soft and left the door open. We were relegated back to last. After resetting we came back to 3rd. I definitely felt like I let that one get away from us.

Race 3, we grabbed the early lead after another good start, but when exiting turn 2 the bike lost all power and shut down.

After checking over the bike in the pits, we couldn’t find a fault. It ran flawlessly. So we thought we’d have another crack.

Race 4, yet again another good start and grabbed the lead. Coming out of turn 2 we yet again had the bike shut down, and we called it a night.

Sorry to the boys that had to dodge me for half the night, I know it’s not fun!

After packing up and putting the bike in the truck, we started stripping it. After only 20 minutes we found the problem, 1 bloody connector! The solder had broken and the wire was barley hanging on. It’s a shame seeing as we checked over everything after the state titles, but I’m thinking the hit in race 1 caused the issue.

Anyway, that’s racing, and that’s why we decided to head east early and get all the issues ironed out.

We learnt a lot and can’t wait to get back in 2 weeks time to have a real crack.

Cheers to everyone involved in making this trip and this season happen, and cheers to my awesome crew for making it a great weekend!
