WA Sleddog Sports Association

WA Sleddog Sports Association Official public page for WASSA - Western Australian Sleddog Sports Association We welcome any breed of dog to come along to a training day and have a go.

Our club, Western Australia Sleddog Sports Association (WASSA), was formed in 1991 (initially under the name of Alaskan Malamute Association of Western Australia but changed due to the variety of breeds the club has attracted), to bring this sport to the dog owners of Western Australia. The club has grown quickly over the years, and our members enjoy the benefits of participating in training days

and races over the colder months of the year. Dog sledding is depicted as involving long tracks through the snow with large teams of Siberian Huskies or Alaskan Malamutes. In Australia, and more specifically Western Australia, snow is impossible to come by. To combat this, the sport of dog sledding has been re-invented using scooters and rigs in place of the normal snow sled, and using any breed that has a desire to pull, run and just have fun. You won't be disappointed.

Tour de Pines 1 Presentations

Loving the class photos from Roaming with a lens photography! πŸ₯°
We had 68 class entries run on Sunday, with a really strong showing for Novice and Canicross. What an amazing turnout in the fog. Just wait until you see the rest of the photos 🌫️

Massive thank you to Enchanting Brews for bringing the COFFEE and music to the race. "Is there a coffee van" is always one of the top questions before a race, and we love you for that.

Next race is Muck'n'Mayhem on 20th/21st June, see the FB event and Show Manager for details. Entries close 14th June

To have consistency across all races offered by WASSA, we updated our bylaws this year regarding dogs running canicross and another class.

"A dog may compete in canicross in addition to another race class within the same event, provided that the two classes in which the dog is competing are not consecutive and a minimum of one full class separation exists between them."

It is still your responsibility to ensure dogs have the fitness to race in canicross and an additional class.

Tickets for Tour de Pines 1 are open until 11pm 31/05/26 on Show Manager

First race of the 2026 season done, with an awesome new location for Paws in the Paddock!
Greeted with a gorgeous cold morning at Perrys Paddock, we had plenty of keen runners and walkers tackle 2.5km or 7.5km!

MANY thanks to Drip Drop Coffee for hot drinks and amazing toasties. Many a runner crossed the line, caught their breath, and followed their nose!

Thanks to our committee and all helpers, we cannot pull off these events without people showing up in the dark for setup.

Photos are available through with a lens photography an amazing job by Nikki, riding around the course to catch runners in different spots.

Entries are open on Show Manager for the next race, Tour de Pines 1, on the 7th June at Gnangara Pines, all 1 and 2-dog classes are available for racing if you're ready!
