Coach feature โ€“ Jacquie

Jacquie joined Glenelg Pony Club around two years ago as a coach.

Jacquie has been a fixture in the horse world since she was young. Growing up with Pony Club, she developed her riding skills in showjumping, dressage and horse trials, eventing and showjumping competitively from Pony Club through to international level competitions, while also trying out all other disciplines Pony Club offers.

Jacquie was one of two students who started equestrian as a sport at Geelong Grammar School; a program now headed by close friend Lucy.
Jacquieโ€™s passion is performance horses, and she has contacts in various TB re-training programs and enjoys working horses with a lot of energy.

Jacquie is an intro EA coach and Level 1 PCAV coach, has worked for RDA Victoria for many years and is an official in high-level competitions. She was also chosen as cross country team official for the Tokyo Olympics (when they were delayed by a year due to Covid, Jacquie regretfully could not head to Tokyo due to being unwell), she regularly officiates for eventing across Victoria.

Jacquie was recently was part of the judges and officialsโ€™ team at the PC Horse Trials Vic State Championships.
As a high-level coach, Jacquie can teach any discipline, as she does at our rallies. From dressage to equitation science, jumping to one-on-one ba****ck sessions, Jacquie is highly sought-after.
Glenelg Pony Club is lucky to have access to a coach with Jacquieโ€™s skills and experience and would like to say thank you for making yourself available to coach at our rallies!

Member feature โ€“ Ava Stretton

Ava and her family joined Glenelg Pony Club three years ago and have been fully engaged in all Club activities.

When Ava joined, she was riding her Shetland pony, Ricky on the lead. Ava progressed very quickly to ride off-lead and then moved on to riding her โ€˜greenโ€™ pony Tassie. Over the years, Ava has worked hard and Tassie is now an experienced pony and a credit to his young rider.

Ava takes part in everything our Club offered and thus Tassie has to put his hooves to Stockmanโ€™s Challenge obstacles, flatwork, cattle work, Showjumping and recently cross country and combined training.

Ava has completed her E and D certificates and has moved on to her D* certificate.

In addition to Pony Club rallies, Ava has taken advantage of our Club offering and attended the weekly Friday Knight riders group lessons before moving on to individual weekly lessons with instructor Judy Doyle.

Ava has recently started competing in and is clocking up placings at Showjumping and combined training competitions.

Ava is a happy rider that will give everything a go and she contributes to the happy atmosphere within our Club.

Avaโ€™s parents Jess and Richard also pitch in to help the Club, with Jess being on the Club committee, running our canteen on rally days, cooking up a storm at camps and always being there when help is needed.

Jess has organised all games and activities at our well-attended Christmas rally two years ago and we all remember the skill at arms rally where Richard and the team from the Re-enactment Society ran skill sessions and games in full costume/ armour.

Ava โ€“ our Club is proud of you and we canโ€™t wait to see what you and Tassie will get up to next.

This weekend marked the Wannon and Barwon Zones joint coaches training and assessment weekend. Meticulously organised by Shelley McCrae, around 15 aspiring coaches attended the training and assessment days. Hosted at the beautiful grounds of the Heywood Pony Club, it was heartening to see so many new coaches coming through in our Zone.
Four of our very own coaches attended the training day on Saturday โ€“ we thank Elizabeth, Amanda, Josie and Gizzy for their commitment to our Club and for furthering or maintain their coaching accreditation.
We are proud to announce that Amanda is now a qualified Prelim coach. The very capable Josie was the only Level 1 coach to be assessed on Sunday and the Glenelg Pony Club will continue to fully support you in your journey towards your Level 1 coaching accrediation. We are proud of you and have had the best of feedback from the riders attending your lessons all Sunday.
We also want to thank our riders who put themselves out there as demonstration riders. Sam, Sophie, Lilly, Indi, Joshua and Finnigan were wonderful ambassadors of our Club. All our riders rode with skill, were polite and looked to be a joy to coach. They have fitted in well with the many riders from other Clubs and on top of benefitting from learning from new coaches also forged new friendships or strengthened existing friendships.
Well done to all organisers, the Heywood Pony Club for hosting the event, all attending coaches and riders! It was a big weekend and many personal goals were achieved.
