My body was feeling stiff, aching joints and inflamed. I thought “wtf is this what I have to look forward to as I age?” And then I took stock and faced the fact that I had dropped the ball on my health. Do I ignore what was happening and blame an aging body for all that was happening or do I take action?
I chose the latter and this is what I focused on-
- HYDRATION- our body is 70% water. If we are not hydrating enough during the day then of course we will feel stiff and sore.
I focused on at least 2 litres of water a day. Yes you can include smoothies, tea and moisture content from fruit however that can be hard to gauge.
- NUTRITION- I focused on good quality whole foods, fruits, veggies, whole grains, seeds, nuts & legumes. I made everything count towards improving my gut health and adequate fibre.
Eliminate or reduce refined sugars (and yes that includes that nightly wine).
If your system isn’t operating well then of course it’s going to be inflamed.
- MOVEMENT- A non negotiable for me and essential to keep the muscles, joints, fascia & collagen in good shape, however exercise is also a stress on the body so it was a matter of dialling in to what my body was up to. Scaling the weight back and reducing session time/intensity
-RECOVERY- A big one! I focused on mobility, relaxing walks in nature, compression boots (shame they don’t have whole body ones 😉), lymphatic work and of course sleep.
-THE RESULTS- In less than 2 weeks I’m feeling the improvement in stiffness, mobility/flexibility and inflammation.
-A FINAL WORD- Our ageing body will never feel like it did in our 20’s or 30’s but we have a choice when it comes to managing how we age. Lifestyle choices can definitely make a difference.
My intention is not to provoke guilt, merely to provoke an awareness around choice and ageing health.
💖 much love
