Meningie Sailing Club Fresh Water Sailing At Its Best

15/03/2026

Jeff Southall here, I am without a crew for Saturdays race the Lake Albert Classic around Lake Albert , its a terrific race so if anyone wants to crew on my NCA 5.8 and have a great time on the water let me know, the race is from 12pm and the afternoon wind forecast is looking like an easy race. A beginner can do it and I don’t mind adult or junior

A word from the Commodore about racing tomorrow 28-02-26.
"Looking at the forecast, with BOM forecasting possible lightening and thunder all day, (if you are to believe them!) as RO for the day I have cancelled the Campbell Park race."
The weather is too unpredictable to sail across the lake and back and safety comes first.

A PROGRAM ADJUSTMENT.
Sat Feb 21st will be a casual run across to Campbell Pk and back. P&A aim to get to Meningie 10ish so we can be on the water soon after. Possibly 2 RLs on the water so come along.
The scheduled Campbell Pk race will be held the following week when we May joined by Lake Bonnie boats!

We had a terrific sail for our two club championship races on Saturday 7th of Feb 2026, the wind was pretty good considering the forecast for big gusts when in reality we probably didn't see a gust up to 20 knots, with the wind more in the 12 knot to 16knot range, with a bit of east in the breeze making the water virtually flat. Tim tried out his new to him Taipan 4.9 and learnt before the start that the trapeze rope needs replacing and the under tramp righting rope is not the best concept resulting in him having a great float around but making it to the start, with the cleanest sails in Meningie. Bec had her Taipan 4.9 out with her new mainsheet but unfortunately it wouldn't uncleat so she had to give up for the day, Mick had his A class out but had some problems making him uncompetitive but giving it a go, he did say what the problem was but he mumbles so much I had no idea what he was talking about hehehe. Brian and Mike on the RL24 had ideal weather but missed their first start by ten minutes because they were just enjoying sailing around, Peter and Alby being ruthless took off like scared rabbits and gave them a good flogging in that race, with line honors for the mono's in both races. Liz and Jeff on the Nacra 5.8 had a great couple of races taking line honors in both races for the cats and had a great tussle with Tim in the second race once he worked a few things out on his boat. Thankyou to Robbie for taking the photos with the borrowed camera, the first of them are a bit blury as he worked out the camera but then he got some great shots once he got he worked it out
We have two more races this Saturday the 14th Feb 2026 with the same forecast so far, see you there

30/01/2026

Sailing for tomorrow (21/1/2026) has been cancelled including the come and try and fleet race. A forecast of mid 20knots gusting early 30knots southerly will be good to blow the heat away but not so good for on water activities.

We had some photos taken of the Goolwa Meningie race last weekend from the club boats , just some boats they got close enough to snap, was terrific to have a couple of Hobie 16’s in the fleet again, and some snaps of the winners in each division, the club normally has this weekend off to get over the race but this weekend we have a club visit to the Lake Bonney Yacht club at Barmera for those with the energy to soak up a bit of sun , see you on the water
