Vic Country is proud to officially announce the coaching group leading our teams into the 2026 AFL Masters National Carnival in Newcastle 👊💙💛🤍

These coaches bring an outstanding mix of experience, leadership, passion and commitment to Masters footy, and we’re excited to have them guiding our squads on the road to Newcastle.

This week's VIP guest to toss the coin for Football is Life Member, and games record holder, Matt (Sheeds) Martin. We caught up with the legend this week to chat about Centrals!

How many games did you play?
Not sure of exact number, but over 350.

How did you become involved in the club?
Lance Smith asked me to come down and fill in one day. He lasted about 2 minutes before he went off injured and I've stayed for another 25 years. I still follow and love the club.

What are your favourite memories of the club?
Winning the premiership in 2005 is definitely the biggest highlight, but also the Thursday night card games in the packed portable clubrooms at Macpherson Park that went until 4.00am were also great fun.

Who is the best player you've seen at the club?
There have been plenty of great footballers come through the club, Wheels, Brian Wheelahan was very handy but I'm going to say a bloke that's still playing and is a crowd favourite is the best I’ve seen, Johnny Ferri.

And what about some of your favourite characters you have had the pleasure of spending time with?
Bully (Kane Bullen) and Matty O'Brien quickly come to mind and are 2 of the funniest blokes you could meet, but overall I have found family and friends at Melton Centrals that I'll never forget and will remain friends for life.
