The question that seems to be getting asked a lot..... Where is the womens game going in Victoria ?
Well here is some food for thought for everyone,
-Last season 2025 we had 157 active teams participate in the alloted 5 state league levels, this year 2026 we have 153 active state league teams alloted over 8 state league levels.
-Of the 153 teams this year many are new entries and many are from the churches league.
-Incredibly from last year to this year we have seen 8 thats correct 8 teams fold after they particpated in state leagues 1,2 and 3. (of course there were many others in state 4 and 5), three of the now defunct teams were state 1 and six of those 8 teams were in the south east.

How are we getting is so wrong ?
How can we be claiming to seeing female football grow especially after the Matildas exposure and success ?
Why are we trying to model the womens game on the mens structure ?
Is it the clubs getting it wrong, is it FV, is it the general population that is yet to wrap their heads around it and support the female game ?

I dont think the female game is growing, its going up and down in the same spot, we win some battles and lose just as many in return. I feel that we may be another 5-7 years off actually seeing growth in our game, numbers wise and quality standards, lets hope that structually, mentally and physically we are prepared for that so we can win more battles and lose less and see the growth that the female game deserves.

Round 1 is done and dusted we saw a 26-0 and a 12-0 and several 10 plus goal wins, shuffling happened and we saw two teams get triple promotions.
Round 2 now starts and we see a 33-0 result ? Post was quickly taken down by the club after it made some remarks.
Do we still think this state 8 idea is good for the growth and the expansion of female football with young NPL juniors and or strong churches league teams coming through and or state 1 teams folding and players going together to play state 8 or state 7 in a newly formed team ?
Do you want to see your 15 old daughter play in a 33-0 loss or go see your friend or partner play in a 33-0 win for that matter ?
FV have also put out a post “The outcome has acted as a catalyst for a wide scale review of the community senior womens football pyramid in 2026, ahead of the 2027 season” why did we just throw ingredients into a sandwich and hope it tasted good ?

Round 1 is in the books, a few surprising results, some expected and some not so much, for mine seeing a couple of the promoted higher league teams doing well was a bit of a surprise but I suppose its all about what teams gained and or lost players wise in pre season

So here we are Round 1 is upon us, Good luck to all the clubs.
Sadly we have already seen 2 forfeits in the South East, one in State 5 and one in State 2 (which the whole world knew over a month ago except for FV who were oblivious to it ?).
I am not sure how hard it would have been to fill the leagues from top to bottom instead of working backwards and inside out doing State 1 then State 8-6 then State 5-3 ?!

So here we are, one week away from kick off and still awaiting fixtures (allegedly officially tomorrow) as clubs received cut off times.
So 9 teams in State 3 NW and 9 teams in state 4 SE and 8 teams in state 8 NW and speculation about several teams that won’t field a starting eleven.
Could we not have added one state league at a time instead of trying to jam an extra three leagues in ?
Some travel times are absurd, good luck to the girls paying petrol with the current prices and some baffling decisions by FV with this restructure.

Many Questions to ask :

-What are we doing wrong with female football ?
-Are clubs focusing where they need to or just ticking the box for grants and councils ?
-Why have we not fully capitalised on the Matildas exposure and success ?
- We keep being told that female football is growing but at the grass roots level and in reality it seems to be on the decline ?

After a break in the off season we are back with Women's State League News !!
Interesting movements all the way through the leagues, we await final confirmation from FV.
We know of several clubs that unfortunately will not be fielding teams in 2026 and hope to see them all come back next year.
