I want to be honest with my Zumba with Angela community about where I’m currently at, because I’ve been thinking seriously about whether I can continue.
I’m actually considering retiring from Zumba.
The reality is that my business is going downhill, and I simply can’t afford to keep putting money into advertising when I’m getting very little return.
A big part of the problem is the number of people in the area presenting themselves as Zumba instructors and using the Zumba name to attract participants, while teaching something that isn’t actually Zumba.
Someone may have completed the one-day Zumba training and received a certificate, but that doesn’t automatically mean they have the experience or understanding of the Latin-inspired dance fitness program that Zumba is. It isn’t aerobics, it isn’t simply jumping around to music, and it isn’t Dance-fit, Bolly-fit, or whatever type of fitness class someone happens to teach with the word “Zumba” put on the advertisement.
The problem is that these classes are attracting people who are paying for what they believe is Zumba. That directly affects instructors who are actually trying to provide the genuine program.
I can no longer run my classes at most of the local community centres, as there is no availability due to this fraudulent activity.
From a participant’s perspective, they may believe they’re attending Zumba. And meanwhile, genuine Zumba instructors are losing opportunities and business.
And honestly, it has taken a lot of the passion out of it for me.
I’ve spent years building Zumba with Angela, investing time and money, learning the program and putting a lot of care into providing my participants with the original, authentic Zumba experience.
It is incredibly frustrating to watch the market become saturated with people who may have a certificate but very little experience or understanding of the program, while simply using the Zumba name to sell something else.
I’m not making a final decision just yet. But I do want to be transparent with all of you about what is happening behind the scenes and why I’m seriously considering whether continuing is financially and personally sustainable.
To everyone who has supported Zumba with Angela, kept coming to my classes, recommended me to others and been part of this community.. thank you. ❤️
You are the reason I’ve continued for as long as I have.
