BML Squash BML Squash is aimed at exposing the great game of squash to as many people as possible and teaching

I have been a squash coach for over 10 years now and enjoy what it gives to me and what I think I can provide to people to enjoy the game. My style of coaching is very interactive, a good laugh but most of all it is aimed at identifying what an individual wants from squash, setting those goals and planning to achieve them. So now is the time to turn it into a full time role and see where it goes!!

After a year of broken training and little squash - super proud of the work that Haider has put in the past few months. Thankful for the opportunity to work with him and it culminated in another State title win at msac today. Great work mate.

It’s all well and good that there are these new squash brands coming into the market but where is the market for it - particularly in Australia? Seems a bit like shifting deck chairs on the titanic

Been a while since I have updated on how BML Squash players have been going but a big shout out to the Connor boys (Darcy and Connor) and the Naqvi boys (Haider and Kuhmal). Over the past few weeks these boys have won state titles and club championships between them, and it’s great to see them progressing in our great sport.
Well done fellas - keep working hard and the rewards will come.

Been a few months since I have done any coaching - between covid and the two shops - finding time is hard. Great to have Haider and Kuhmal come down to Geelong for a couple of hours today and work on some key aspects of their games. Great fun boys, thanks to Dave Crossley for bringing them down.

Last week I dropped a quick note about the 7P's.
"P**s Poor Preparation Produces P**s Poor Performance".

Pretty self explanatory but below are a few key points about the 7P's and some other key things you need to remember.(I'm trying to not let this be too long so I will bullet point them):

- Set yourself bite size / achievable goals. Going too big, too early will inevitably lead to disappointment.
- You need to learn that there is a big chance you will NOT achieve your ultimate goal - sounds harsh but it's true. It's also OK if you know you have done everything you can.
- When you hear a champion tell you that if you believe, it will happen - it doesn't work like that.
- Prepare to win but also prepare yourself as to how you will deal with bad days / losses
- Preparation = planning. Planning = identification of key aspects to help achieve success.
- Preparation is not just about being physically fit and hitting thousands of balls. It includes a lot of small things such as: sleeping, eating, hydration, strategy, tactics, player research - just to name a few.
- Mental preparation is KEY
- At tournaments preparation goes down in to smaller details like - monitoring match times, do you have water, eyewear, towel, racquets and shoes etc. Sounds simple - Let me tell you I have seen it all.

This is all tip of the iceberg stuff , just a few things to consider about preparing yourself - you can't expect to succeed if you don't do the small things well and consistently.

I'll touch base again soon.

So - is the next installment a lengthy written Piece of work or a short video. I don’t care either way

We have been keeping a relatively low profile here at BML Squash, just sitting back and watching a lot of squash stuff come out on Facebook - some good and some just a complete waste of time. So I just wanted to throw in a quick message to players about preparation. Not just fitness, strategy or targets but overall preparation. So to give you something to ponder until I delve into more detail - ALL of my players lived and died by one creed:

"P**s Poor Preparation Produces P**s Poor Performance".

This became my crews mantra for training and competing but more importantly can be applied across all facets of your life. It doesn't involve weird rituals, incense burning ceremonies or standing on one leg and barking like a dog. It's very simple - prepare everything you do - results don't just come about because you would like them to!!

I will leave that with you to mull over - in my next post I will start talking more about the "7 P's" and how it is practically applied to squash.
