Most non-sailors will never truly understand what it takes to complete the VendΓ©e Globe.
To sailors, it's one of the ultimate tests. Alone, non-stop, racing around the world through the Southern Ocean, storms, gear failures, sleep deprivation and everything the sea can throw at you.
Charlie Dalin didn't just complete it. He set a new race record, taking more than 9 days off the previous best time.
What many people didn't know was that he was also battling cancer.
While fighting a battle on land that would have stopped most people in their tracks, he went to sea and produced one of the greatest performances offshore sailing has ever seen.
A champion, a competitor, and an inspiration to sailors everywhere.
Fair winds, Charlie. May the breeze always be on your aft quarter. β΅π
