The NRL has been warned it could be dragged to court in an escalating dispute with New Zealand Rugby unless it changes the name of the PNG Chiefs.

In a letter to the NRL this week, NZ Rugby, which owns the Chiefs franchise in Super Rugby, said the Chiefs was not an acceptable name for the incoming team and asked league officials to reconsider it.

NZ Rugby told the NRL it wanted to discuss the clash of names with the rival code before the logo and jersey launch and will not rule out the threat of legal action.

Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow is on track to sign the biggest deal in Dolphins history worth $1.4M a year.

He is off-contract next year and will become available for free agency on November 1 with the Dolphins already starting preliminary talks to hold off rival clubs.

“I do want to stay here,” said Tabuai-Fidow.

“I’ll leave all contract stuff to my management and what they want to do. I just want to focus on this finals series and hopefully get wins.

“But this club has been good to me. I love the club, love the boys. It’s a pretty good club to be at, so hopefully it all works out.”

Todd Carney has opened up on the special relationship with Mitchell Pearce that has helped him on his journey to give up alcohol 🤝

Carney gave up alchohol three years ago just one year after his former teammate Pearce. Since then the pair have started Reboot Mindset Academy where they help kids who are at risk of going through similar issues.

“The difficulties and the challenges we had as players is the storytelling piece of Reboot,” said Carney.

“And if it wasn’t for Pearcey, I wouldn’t be still sober.

“So we started with just saying ‘we’re gonna help men, women that struggle with alcohol’. Then we’ve got a team of counsellors and psychologists, mindset coaches, and we’ve brought it together."

Could Xavier Willison be teaming up with Payne Haas once again? 🤔

"Just got a tip about (Xavier Willison signing with the Rabbitohs) just before we came on air," Said James Hooper via The Fanatics's Rugby League Insider Podcast.

"He's signed with the Broncos until the end of next year (2027) but he's going to be a November 1 player.

"...It's going to be for '28, Payne Haas is going to be there, Wayne's there. It's nowhere near across the line but talk has started."

I didn't ever see myself leaving the Bronocs," said Black.

"When Kev (Walters) was there, I was getting really good feedback and it was really good.

"Then 'Madge' came along and obviously different coaches, different plans. I was just getting mixed messages and juggling what feedback to actually listen to."
