We are a progressive martial arts school where you can learn self-defence and improve; fitness, confidence, coordination and other skills. Tang Soo Do, Moo Rim Kwan is a school founded by 10th Dan, Grand Master (Kwan jang nim) Kyu Sik Shin. This Tang Soo Do
style has been developed over many years by Grand Master Shin. The style combines the traditional Tang Soo Do skills and many new techniques developed by Grand Master Shin. Students learn; Yang Sang Chi Yu Bobh (health and vitality exercises), Kyok Sool is a unique combination of hand and foot drills designed to develop reflexes, sensitivity and speed all at once. Hyungs (also known as Forms) which go back to a time when Tang Soo Do was used for real combat. Other important skills learnt are; Ho Sin Sul; (Self-defense techniques), Sam Soo Sik Deh Ryun; (Three-step sparring), Il Soo Sik Deh Ryun; (One-step sparring) and Ja Yu Deh Ryun (Free sparring). Also Senior belts are given an Introduction to Hand acupuncture based healing. The Melbourne based school is run in Ormond by Sa Beom (Master) Tony Aitkenhead (5th Dan). Grand Master Shin (school founder) during the course of his life has pursued improving his practice and knowledge of the martial arts. He has studied Tai Chi, and ancient eastern healing methods, and other martial arts styles. Grand Master Shin has incorporated the practical aspects of these other arts into his Tang Soo Do school. Tang Soo Do literally means “The Way of the Tang Hand”. Moo Rim Kwan literally means “school of the martial tree”, interpreted as; a tree grows high, stands strong and maintains its health and as such a MRK practitioner seeks to always grow their knowledge and maintain their health and stand strong with their convictions. This, adheres to lifelong improvement, growth and learning.
