We would like to welcome our newest team member to the studio - Oliver John. We are looking forward to having Oliver on board in a few weeks time. He will be available to take Tania’s singers whilst she is on her final university placement, as well as work with any newbies wanting to delve into the world of musical theatre, cabaret or pop. About - Oliver John is an Adelaide-based vocalist, creative, singing teacher and performer, recently graduated from the Bachelor of Music Theatre at the Elder Conservatorium of Music, The University of Adelaide.
He played Jesus in ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’ (ECMT, dir. George Torbay), and has appeared in ‘Candide’ (State Theatre Company of South Australia/State Opera South Australia, dir. Mitchell Butel/Amy Campbell), ‘Little Women’ (ECMT, dir. Erin James), and ‘Sweeney Todd’ (ECMT, dir. James Millar). He was the music director on Prince Alfred College’s 2024 production of ‘Urinetown’, for which he also made his conducting debut. In 2023, Oliver travelled interstate as a vocalist in ‘HELLO: Erin Jae’s Tribute to Adele’ as part of the Under The Stars Festival (Australian Shakespeare Company).
Prior to their degree, Oliver played Dewey Finn in ‘School of Rock’ (Pelican Productions, dir. Jen Frith), Seymour Krelborn in ‘Little Shop of Horrors’ (Adelaide Theatre Academy, dir. Michelle Davy), performed in the Junior Theatre Festival in Atlanta (Adelaide Youth Theatre) and in the Class of Cabaret program in 2019 with the Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
In recent years, he has worked in youth spaces as a singing teacher and music director, including at Pelican Productions, Theatre Bugs, Adelaide Youth Theatre, Australian Theatre for Young People among others.
Oliver made his debut as a producer and director on ‘Love is a Game: An Adele Song Cycle’ in the Adelaide Fringe Festival 2025, winning the Holden Street Theatres Award. Most recently, Oliver produced, directed, and starred in ‘Bond Songs: The Music of 007’ at Ayers House, which won the Adelaide Cabaret Fringe Festival’s Encore Award.
