Award Winners Saturday 12th August

Final weekly Award winners of the season.

⚾️ Gold Glove ⚾️

Another masterclass of catches was put on by young rookie, Henri Hill, chasing down pretty much everything that came his way. 4 total chances, 4 outs and no errors.

⚾️ Silver Slugger ⚾️

She left it till the last game of the season but Sarah Delforce got her first hit in this game, only one of two hits the team got in the game. This also marks Sarah’s first time winning a weekly award so it’s definitely a reason to celebrate. Congrats Crow

⚾️ Player of the Week ⚾️

It ended up being a close points count between our Gold Glove and Silver Slugger winners but Henri got the nod in the end.
His spectacular catches in left field were a highlight in the game, even earning some gasps from the opposition. Henri also made the only other hit in the game for the team

White Sox Blue - 5th grade With Tough Game Against 5th Grade Boomerangs

⚾️⚾️⚾️

White Sox Blue - 5th grade had trouble keeping up with 5th Grade Boomerangs in a 19-2 loss on Saturday 12th August at Boomerang Field.

Boomerangs committed an error, which helped White Sox Blue - 5th grade tie the game at two in the top of the second.
Boomerangs flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the second, scoring six runs on four hits to take an 8-2 lead.

Sarah Delforce and Henri Hill were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected one hit for White Sox Blue. Tara Perrin led White Sox Blue with two runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup.

The team let out a half hearted cheer as the end of the game was called, finally seeing the end of what has been one of the most mentally and emotionally exhausting seasons of sport ever played.

Award Winners Saturday 29th July

⚾️ Gold Glove ⚾️

Almost pitching a complete game, 113 pitches and more if he could have gotten away with it, Anthony “Zinga” Cembala left it all on the field in what ended up being a very tough game. A couple of nice stops from the mound and assists earns the Gold Glove nod

⚾️ Silver Slugger ⚾️

Chris Heffernan earns the Silver Slugger hitting 2 for 3(single and a double), 2 RBI and 1 run scored. Another fine batting performance from Hef.

⚾️ Player of the Week ⚾️

Make it a double for Hef as his team votes him the POTW. Not only did he show up with his bat, he caught the whole game at the notoriously tough home plate of Seaham.

White Sox Blue - 5th grade With Tough Game Against Woodberry/Seaham

⚾️⚾️⚾️

These reports get generated through the game changer app once the scorebook has been input, with generally very few tweaks done to them.
The report from this game literally produced a novel of compliments for our opponent and one paragraph of positivity about our own team.

However this game deserves a few non computer generated words.

The team was beaten 27-5, suffering our greatest defeat this season and perhaps the most runs scored against us ever.

To say it’s been a demoralising season is an understatement and this score line and game is just another example of the joy being drained out of the game for this team.

What can you do?
We keep turning up every week and giving it 100%.
The score lines are not reflecting that. No one turns up and doesn’t give it their all but it becomes glaringly obvious early on in each game that we are outskilled in this grade.
A “promotion” none of us wanted but which we have tried to push through and get what we can out of these games all whilst trying to lift each other up.

It’s a hard task because we haven’t just been losing, we have been getting annihilated with little to no chance of winning.

That’s why we will continue to try and highlight the good.

“Anthony Cembala and Chris Heffernan were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for White Sox Blue - 5th grade. Heffernan provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led White Sox Blue - 5th grade with two runs batted in. The catcher went 2-for-3 on the day. Cembala and Andrew McIntyre each stole multiple bases for White Sox Blue - 5th grade. White Sox Blue - 5th grade stole six bases in the game.”

Award Winners Saturday 15th July 2023

⚾️ Gold Glove ⚾️

A regular name in the GG awards history, Henri Hill adds another to his collection with a fine performance again in left field.
He ran down a line drive like a Major Leaguer to record one of the smoothest outfield catches we have seen.

⚾️ Silver Slugger ⚾️

We could almost rename this award to the Zinga Zlugger because he’s done it again! Anthony “Zinga” Cembala claims the teams only hit going 1 for 1 with a single, a walk, a run and 3 stolen bases.

⚾️ Player of the Week ⚾️

A new name in the awards this season, it’s team Coach Tara Perrin scoring the POTW nod this week.
Tara let her glove do the talking, having 8 opportunities for outs and converting all 8 whilst holding down 1st base, including a couple of nasty pop flys that took an eternity to come back down to earth.

White Sox Blue Fall After Strong Showing By Lake Camels

⚾️⚾️⚾️

White Sox Blue couldn't keep up with Lake Camels and fell 14-2 on Saturday at Pendlebury Oval.

Camels jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning and never looked back.

Brendan Kelly took the loss for White Sox, he went four innings, allowing 14 runs (nine earned) on 12 hits, striking out four and walking six.

Anthony Cembala led White Sox with one hit in one at bat. Cembala, Kelly, and Callum Unsted each stole multiple bases for White Sox, the team collected nine stolen bases for the game.

Starting Pitcher Brendan Kelly suffered a season ending fracture of the ankle. We wish Brendan all the best in his recovery.
Heading for a stint on the injured list also is Ryan Wilson(Quad) joining Jesse Butler(Fractured Wrist) and Ben McNevin(Illness) in what has to be one of the unluckiest seasons on record.

Award Winners Sunday 9th July 2023

⚾️ Gold Glove ⚾️

Making a brilliant catch in centrefield and robbing the other team of an extra base hit, Andrew Mcintyre showed everyone how it was done, nailing down another Gold Glove nod

⚾️ Silver Slugger ⚾️

Another familiar name, especially where the Silver Slugger is concerned, Anthony “Zinga” Cembala nails down another win with a great performance with the bat. He went 2 for 3 with a single and a double, scored two runs, 1 rbi and 3 stolen bases 💪

⚾️ Player of the Week ⚾️

There were plenty of shining stars in this game but winning this week by one point is Callum Unsted. Cal manned the hot corner, making easy work of line drives and hard ground balls that came his way. He had 2 put outs and 1 assist. He also showed up with the bat going 1 for 1, 2 walks, 2 runs scored, 1 rbi and 3 stolen base

Both teams put up a bunch of runs, but White Sox Blue fell to Maitland Mavericks 14-10 on Sunday 9th July. Maitland collected five hits, while White Sox had three.

White Sox got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Anthony Cembala doubled, Ryan Wilson walked, Callum Unsted walked, Michelle Wolstenholme walked, and Maitland Mavericks committed an error, each scoring one run.

Maitland Mavericks tied the game in the top of the second.

In the bottom of the second inning, White Sox went back into the lead after Unsted walked, Tara Perrin walked, and White Sox Blue - 5th grade scored on a wild pitch, each scoring one run.

Maitland flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth, scoring six runs on two hits to take a 14-9 lead.

Cembala started on the hill for White Sox. He allowed three hits and 11 runs (three earned) over two and two-thirds innings, striking out two and walking three.

Cembala led White Sox with two hits in three at bats. White Sox had a strong eye at the plate, collecting 11 walks for the game. Chris Heffernan, Perrin, Unsted, and Wilson led the team with two walks each. Cembala, Heffernan, Unsted, and Wilson each stole multiple bases for White Sox, the team stole 13 bases in the game.

Award Winners Saturday 1st July

⚾️ Gold Glove ⚾️

Filling in from 6th grade, Thomas Killian wins the GG this week with a couple of nice catches in centre field. He also stopped some line drives making it to the fence and prevented more runs from scoring. A nice first appearance with White Sox Blue

⚾️ Silver Slugger ⚾️

Another 6th grader backing up, Hayden Flynn went 1 for 2 with a single, a walk, a rbi and two stolen bases. He also pitched the 2nd half of the game to back up the batting performance

⚾️ Player Of The Week ⚾️

A dead heat in the votes this week means we have joint winners for the first time this season.

Thomas Killian was a welcome addition to the outfield, already earning himself the Gold Glove award. He scored a run and walked once to help the team out.

Our other winner is original team member and returning player Paul “Neeson” Hill. Paul was the starting pitcher for the game, striking out one and enticing the batters with a lot of pitches in the zone. He also stole two bases, walked once and scored two runs
