Weekend recap - tough nite at the office.
After showing some great pace and driving extremely well Friday night picking up a 4th, DNF (cut tyre) and a 2nd Place in the heats with a stacked field of 10 cars, we returned last night in the hopes to back it up...
Sadly it didnt go that way, first heat Ryno was confident starting out of P6 but seemingly to be a re-occuring trend was pushed out of the way in turn 1&2 and lost alot of ground at the same time but drove the rest of the race clean and tidy.
2nd heat starting off the back row of 10 cars, was absolutely hauling through turn 3&4 slowly picking cars off, stuck it up high where he had been running all weekend to set up a pass down the main straight but one car made a lane change to make a pass on another car and didnt know Ryan was already up top, Ryan having no where to go ended up with a car across his nose and taken up into the fence into the trendy 'no parking zone' perched on the fence tearing the rf corner out and also breaking a section out of his brake rotor where he was hard on the brake pedal- (sadly brakes dont work great on dirt 😬)..luckily just shy of going on its lid- thankfully both kids weren't hurt. Ryan was pretty upset but composed himself and wanted the car fixed to get back out on track. Luckily we have some good people around us in the juniors camp who leant us parts we didnt have and gave us a hand getting the front end fixed enough to race again and we sent Ryan out for the feature where he drove well, was making great ground but drove cautious like we asked of him to finish in p8 where he had qualified for the weekend after the 2 DNF's and drove it onto the trailer. Was a great feature to watch, and only .4 of a second difference in fastest lap times across the Top Star class in the feature... showing it is going to be a tough and very competitive year ahead for everyone.
Thankyou for everyone who came to check on Ryan, offered to help and commended him on getting back in the seat and driving like it never happened....anyone who knows the kid he used to be when he started never would have jumped back in the seat the next race.. but times have changed and the lad is hungry to give it a good crack this year, and do it cleanly ;)
Congrats to all the juniors who drove clean all weekend, and also to the lads who made the podium. Thanks to Squid for looking after the young fella on the infield after his scare, we always know he is in the best hands with our infield crew 👌
Fair bit more damage to fix this week that we have found this morning so really hoping we can get it fixed before Friday night to continue the ProCoat Epoxy Flooring Junior Series in support of the Modified Sedans Northern Nationals.
Thanks to those who support us in our racing
