THE ROAD BACK TO HOCKEY ONE
A major milestone for Territory hockey, our community and the next generation.
After four years of rebuilding, Hockey NT has received formal written confirmation from the Boards of Hockey Australia and Hockey One of their commitment to work with us on a roadmap towards the objective of returning the Territory Stingers to Australia’s premier domestic hockey competition.
For four years we have worked to rebuild the Stingers, create new opportunities, reconnect the Territory with high-level competition and prove that Northern Australia still has an important role to play in the national game.
Now that work has led to a genuine road forward.
For the first time since the Stingers left the national competition, there is now a formal pathway being developed with Hockey Australia and Hockey One towards the objective of their return.
Hockey Australia and Hockey One have acknowledged the Territory’s proud hockey history, our First Nations hockey legacy and the contribution our athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and communities have made to Australian hockey.
Most importantly, they have backed our ambition for the Stingers to return to Hockey One and committed to working with us on the pathway ahead.
We are genuinely grateful to Hockey Australia and Hockey One for the way they have approached these conversations and for recognising both where Territory hockey has come from and what it can become.
There is still work to do, and we know we have to earn our place.
But we now have a clear direction forward, national support behind that ambition, and an opportunity to keep building the capability, partnerships and momentum to get there.
The road back is now real.
