Over the past week and a half, our Indonesian athlete exchange players have embraced every part of the Territory hockey community.

From training and playing with their host clubs, coaching juniors, visiting local schools to share their culture, language and hockey skills, joining Territory Stingers and U18 sessions, and spending time with families across Darwin, they have given so much back throughout their visit.

Through bilingual activities, cultural exchange and practical hockey sessions, the school visits created meaningful connections between young Territorians and our closest international neighbour, while celebrating the strength of the Northern Territory’s multicultural community.

They have also experienced plenty of what makes the Territory unique, and the connections it shares with Indonesia — including a visit to Rapid Recovery NT, Garuda Football Club, Karama Indonesian Uniting Church Mass, time with the Indonesian Consulate, Jellies training, State of Origin night, Mindil Beach Markets, jumping crocodiles, trips around town in the Stingers Hilux and countless moments exploring Darwin with their host families and clubs.

It has been a week and a half to remember for the players, while bringing genuine connection, energy and international flavour to our hockey community.

As we look ahead to Wednesday night’s opening Festival of Hockey games between the Territory Stingers and Indonesia, Hockey NT thanks every club, host family, volunteer, coach, player, supporter and partner who helped make this exchange possible.

Thank you to the Indonesian athletes for everything they have brought to our community.

Now, let the games begin.

Over the past few years, the Hockey NT Performance Pathways Program has focused on creating meaningful opportunities for talented Territory athletes through national championships, interstate competition, international tours, Territory Stingers involvement and Hockey Australia identification.

Importantly, the program aims to provide athletes with a clear and achievable pathway within the Northern Territory, ensuring our best young players can continue to develop, contribute and aspire to higher honours while remaining connected to Territory hockey.

The foundation has been established. The next phase is ensuring our athletes continue to grow and reach their potential, while creating opportunities for those who will follow.

Round Eight delivered plenty of movement behind the unbeaten East Darwin Storm, with the women’s and men’s finals races tightening at the MWT Hockey Centre.

Storm stayed perfect in both competitions, while Commerce Pints moved into second on the women’s ladder and Waratah closed the gap on Banks for the final top-four place.

In the men’s competition, Nightcliff Tigers held second, but Waratah’s win over Banks brought them within one point in the race behind Storm.

Indonesian exchange athletes also continued to make an impact, with Salma Maulani scoring in Waratah’s women’s win and Suharyana on the scoresheet for Waratah’s men.
