The second stage of the "Hunt for the Golden Chook" was held on Saturday, 7/03/2026 in fabulous conditions at 800m. The winners were Lucas Y (Sydney Rifle Club) and Joe D (Bankstown Chatswood Rifle Club). Both shot exceptional scores.

Joe proved that a Howa in 6.5CM can compete with the best.

Well done everyone.

The next hunt will be held on April 18th at 700m

The first match of the Concord Rifle Club sponsored Sporter Class "Hunt for the Golden Chook" fun shoot will be held next Saturday, 7 February 2026 at 300M. All members of Clubs on the ANZAC Full-bore Range are encouraged to participate.

The rules of the game simply are :-

# BEFORE starting, nominate that you are now shooting for the Golden Chook.
# You may shoot it at any time on the scheduled days.
# Shoot 2+10 twice with your normal club
# Get your club Captain or other responsible adult to deliver your results in writing to either Ed Chan or Matt Pedrana behind targets E3-5.
# Make sure we are told what class your rifle is eligible to shoot in under the SSR's. Either Sporter Production or Sporter Open.
# The results will be tabulated and clubs advised. The winners of the daily range can then commence bragging.
# HAVE FUN and your participation makes you eligible to attend a sumptuous chicken banquet at the completion of the competition. Date to be determined.

And yes we have the much coveted "Golden Chooks" ready for presentation day.

We look forward to seeing you at the range next Saturday.

On Saturday one of our Target Rifle shooters was lured to the dark side and had a shoot in the Sporter Hunter category of the regular inter-club Grade competition at the ANZAC Rifle Range. Wind was from left to right with regular drop offs.

The rig he used was a borrowed unmolested Tikka T3X Target Ace in 6.5 Creedmoor shooting 140gr Hornady ELD Match, Lapua SRP cases with 40.5gr of ADI 2009 powder.

Given that he had never shot the rifle before, it was quite a respectable score and group for a newbie 🤣🤣. Next time we won't be saving sighter 5's.

It was a shame it's owner couldn't do the same 🤣🤣

On Saturday it was fun with flags day at the ANZAC Rifle Range, Malabar and we had some interesting ones flying.

Unfortunately the wind didn't stay from the South and swung around from predominantly the North and straight up the range. The angle changes contributed to quite a bit of shooter confusion.

Just to clarify, the Canadian flag was at half mast only because of a defective pole and not a death in the family. 🤘

A huge thank you to the NSW Office for Sport for providing a grant under the 2024/25 Safe Shooting Grant Program. The funds enabled the Concord Rifle Club to purchase 4 ShotMarker target systems, essential spare parts, viewing tablets for both the shooters and scorers, new target frames and faces.

This has allowed us to retire our previous system that was extremely heavy to install and was near the end of life.

We now have a fantastic set of targets that will keep us going for many years.

Last Sunday morning we heard that John Waters had passed.

John was a regular visitor to our club over the years and he was a good friend to many of our members. Unfortunately, debilitating illness reduced his ability to travel.

We send our sincere condolences to David and his family.

RIP John.

Despite the range being closed today, due to rain, it was not all doom and gloom.

Had a call from David Cormack this morning, whose parents had a trophy presented to Concord Rifle Club member P. Thompson for coming first in club shoots from June to October 1912.

David went to some lengths to track us down and thanks to our page he succeeded. When chatting to David, he didn't know how the trophy came to his family as P Thompson was not a relative.

So who was P. Thompson? A check of the club minute books revealed that he was a foundation member of the club when it was established on 18th January 1911 and he was in fact the very first Treasurer of the club.

Hereunder are some photos of the trophy and the inaugural minutes for the club.

Many thanks to the Cormack family for their generous donation of this important piece of memorabilia to our fabulous club that is in its 113th year.
