** Statement from Mascot Netball Club to our members and community Regarding Incident at Heffron Netball Courts Saturday May 9 **
During a 12-year-olds netball match at the Heffron Netball Courts yesterday morning, an incident occurred involving inappropriate and offensive language allegedly directed toward members of the Jewish community, including antisemitic remarks.
A number of parents, players, and young children witnessed the incident or may have heard mention of this incident occurring.
Mascot Netball Club would like to make it unequivocally clear that we do not tolerate or condone discrimination, racism, antisemitism, vilification, or abusive behaviour of any kind.
Such conduct is completely inconsistent with the values of respect, inclusion, sportsmanship, and community that underpin our club and the wider netball community. These are values we expect all players, parents, supporters, and officials to uphold at all times.
We are committed to ensuring that the RNA competition remains a safe, respectful, and welcoming environment for everyone, regardless of background, religion, or identity. Every participant and spectator deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.
Mascot Netball Club values and respects every member of our community and stands firmly against antisemitism, hate speech, and discriminatory behaviour in all forms. To our members and families who are part of the Jewish community, we stand with you and support you.
We will continue to promote and uphold an inclusive culture for everyone, both on and off the netball courts.
Yours in sport and humanity,
Mascot Netball Club
