Kym and I are both incredibly honoured and grateful to be named finalists for the Volunteer of the Year Award.

Volunteering is something we are deeply passionate about, and being recognised in this way is both humbling and rewarding. We have been fortunate to work alongside so many dedicated volunteers, community members, and organisations who share a commitment to making a positive difference.

Thank you to everyone who has supported and encouraged us throughout this journey. This recognition reflects the collective efforts of an amazing community, and we are proud to be part of it.

Congratulations to all the finalists and nominees. We are inspired by the contributions each of you makes, and we celebrate the positive impact volunteers have across our community every day.

The Marion Tennis Club is absolutely thrilled that the Marion Council last night locked in a 6 new tennis court solution for our club.

Some of the courts will double as multi-use pickleball courts. The facilities were made possible by the financial support of both Council and the Peter Malinauskas Labor Government - which committed $1.5 million to the project at the 2026 election.

Our club was effectively dead to rights two years ago, with low membership numbers and no plan to relocate us following the announcement of South Adelaide Basketball Club, meaning a forced exit from our long term home base.

As a committee, we’ve worked incredibly hard to rebuild and grow the club and we’ve never stopped advocating for a 6 tennis court facility to replace the 6 courts we’ve occupied for many decades.

Last night’s decision locks in this outcome. It means we can continue providing opportunities for our now booming club, which has 214 members, long into the future.

Today we are the equal largest club in the council area in terms of competitive teams, and also have thriving social programs.

We’re also thrilled our new split home base will include 2 courts to be located at the Marion RSL just across the road from our long term former base on Norfolk Rd, Marion. The other four courts and club pavilion will be located on the Sturt Rd, side of the Marion Sports Precinct about 200m away.

We’ve long enjoyed a great relationship with the RSL and I look forward to working with them to discuss the unique opportunities that the multi-use tennis and pickleball courts will provide both clubs.

A special thank you to Member for Gibson Sarah Andrews MP , who has been an incredible advocate for our club and for all clubs on the precinct.

I also thank the council for working with the club and congratulate it on reaching a set solutions for the precinct that see basketball, tennis and soccer all better off.

Special thanks to Marion Mayor Kris Hanna for his support for RSL proposal - which has the potential to become a wonderful community partnership for the people of Marion.

At last night’s General Council Meeting a new home for the Marion Tennis Club was confirmed. 🎾

The club has been offered the southern section of the former croquet club site at 262 Sturt Road, where plans include the construction of 4 new tennis courts and a pavilion. An additional 2 courts are also proposed for the former Marion RSL Bowling Green on Norfolk Road.

The proposal also includes an Under 11 soccer pitch for Sturt Marion Thunder Soccer Club. ⚽

This weekend marks a huge start to the Winter Pennant season for both our juniors and seniors at Marion Tennis Club! 💙💛
🔥 JUNIORS – ROUND 2
After many washouts disrupted Round 1, our junior squads are ready to hit the courts strong this weekend! With an incredible 6 junior teams being fielded, it’s clear the grassroots program at Marion TC is growing with strength, passion, and drive.

💥 SENIORS – ROUND 1 BEGINS SATURDAY
The senior squads launch their winter campaign this Saturday with a fresh new look across the club’s top sides.
This season, Marion TC has split the strength of last summer’s Division 1 squad to enter:
🎾 2 Open Division 4 Men’s teams
One side will feature a joint combination team with Colonel Light West led by our Club President, while the other Marion TC Division 4 team will be captained by Justin Tredwell.
With a blend of experienced campaigners and exciting young recruits, these teams are shaping up to be must-watch tennis this season. 👀🔥
💪 Our Men’s Division 11 and 12 sides will also showcase plenty of talent from our successful summer squads, with exciting new doubles combinations ready to compete.
👑 LADIES DIVISION 5
Coming off a dominant summer season and a Grand Final victory in the Glenelg Districts League, our Ladies Division 5 team heads into winter full of confidence and determination.

A massive congratulations to our Division 1 Men’s team, who battled it out against Hallet Cove in front of a passionate home crowd. It was a tough, high-pressure contest all day, with nail-biting matches that could have gone either way—but our boys showed their class, composure, and experience to bring home the flag in style.

And to our incredible Division 5 Women’s team—what a performance! Up against ladder leaders West Lakes, both doubles matches went the distance to 3 sets, with clutch tie-breaker wins setting the tone. The team then powered through the singles to seal an unforgettable Grand Final victory.

This isn’t just another win—this is history. A flag returns to Marion for the first time in over 15 years. 💙

The resurgence of the Marion Tennis Club has been nothing short of remarkable. From the strength and resilience of our committee, to the passion of our members and support of our community—we are building something truly special. A thriving, inclusive club where tennis is alive, growing, and creating opportunities for all.
