Hi everyone,

Just wanted to share this story of our young mate Mitchell Reid who is like family to us who we taught surf and his siblings. Our cover photo is actually them learning to surf. Mitch was diagnosed with leukaemia last week and will under go intensive treatment over the next 9 months. His amazing mum Mel will stay with him in Perth during this difficult time.

His sister Charlie and little bro Jimi will need to stay in Dunsborough with friends and relatives to complete school. This situation is going to be a huge strain financially and emotionally for this gorgeous young family and any help would be whole heartily appreciated.

Any donation big or small would be a massive help. Here's the link if you would like to help.

Thanks to everyone that has already donated.

Sending Mitch and the family oceans of love.

You got this Mitch!!

Hi Everyone
Apologies for the devastating photo
I am writing on behalf of our neighbourhood with grave concerns about the local wildlife in particular native fauna and birds, who are being poisoned by people unintentionally from the use of the pesticide Pindone (commonly known as Bunny Bait) for the control of rabbits on their properties.
Sarah Palmateer has witnessed over the last 5 months the deaths of 3 magpies (possibility of 7 now) 1 ring tail possum and 2 weeks ago this pink and grey galah (photographed)
Emails were sent to all the neighbouring properties and the general consensus is that they have also noticed dead or dying birds or a decline in bird numbers at their place.
Pindone is a readily available poison that comes in a treated oat form that affects all native animals and birds and also has secondary poisoning effects.
Please contact Sarah with any concerns with you areas wildlife moralities on 0429 685 837. If you find any fresh specimens then please double bag them and put into your fridge (not freezer) and call ASAP. Together we can stop this with the systematic spread of the calici virus on treated carrots which does not have the devastating effects to native wildlife and domestic pets (yet is very effective still on targeting rabbits). We are keen to know the communities thoughts and any help or comments will be appreciated

A big thank you to the huge turn out of Margaret River locals and the wider community that support us. Really appreciate the diverse mob that turned up and the messages of encouragement. Next immediate step before this Wednesday is emailing local Councillors with our objections. You can contact us for more info or look on the Shire website for their email contacts direct. Email or come (or both) on Wednesday 5.30pm to the meeting at the Shire offices in town to show we care. Bad things happen when good people do nothing!

Hi you guys. Just a quick reminder rally for the river is tomorrow at 5.45pm at the Rotary Park (Old Kate, Duck park). Please make the effort to come as without people support we risk doing irreversible damage along the river banks. Support from the community will show Councillors we do not want this track. We've had fantastic support but tomorrow is the time to stand for what you believe in. Protection of the river starts now! See you there. J&S

Hey everyone

The Margaret River needs local support!
Please join our rally this Tuesday the 20th at 5.45pm @ Rotary Park to support the preservation of the Margaret River.
We feel I have a duty of care to the amazing river to protect and preserve this special place.

We are afraid that a walking track along the banks of the Margaret River will open a can of worms.... sanitary issues, pollution/rubbish, increased fire risk and a negative impact on the fragile ecosystem that does not need to be exposed to tourism. The river should be preserved for future generations. If we can't protect 3kms of the Margaret River what hope do we have for the rest of the south west if not the world.

We plea to countymen, locals, tourists, greenies, surfers, bikies, bogans, hippies, rednecks and grommies (as you are the future of this river) to come together to help do what's right for the mighty Wooditchup (Margaret River).

Cheers Sarah & Josh

Hi everyone
A big thank you to all the locals who turned up for the paddle up the Margaret River Mouth with the Wadandi Traditional Owners. And a special thank you to Wayne ( Wonitji ), Toni and Iszaac Webb. It was extremely moving and spiritual and an honour to hear Zac Call to Country ( Boodji ) and ancestors to paddle up the river.
Thanks also to Drew and Tracey from Surfrider Foundation for making the event happen.
Zac Wayne and Toni gave such a informative and passionate Cultural tour. It was a fantastic turn out with 100 people that showed their love and support to care for the beautiful Wooditchup Bilya ( Margaret River) and also showing their appreciation for the local Indigenous people. We hope to run more of these types of events in the future.
Cheers everyone
Josh and Sarah

Hi everyone,
I’m Mel, a friend of Josh & Sahs (though maybe no longer after this) and I have hacked his account (melismyfavouritefriendintheworld isn’t the most secure password) because I am loving the pics you guys are sending. Can I ask everyone who has any old photo’s, vids, newspaper clips etc to post them straight onto the Surf Academy’s page? We can use them for his 70th birthday, which is coming up soon 🤣
I’m going to really push the friendship and offer a free kayak/canoe/board hire for best post without clearing it with Josh first 😂
Start digging through your archives!
