Swimming Women

Swimming Women Swimming Women is for all women who can swim, used to swim, want to swim, or have never swum. What are you waiting for….. just go with the flo!

It is my attempt to capture the energy, passion and fun I have gained from swimming and share it. Swimming Women is designed for women in a ‘no pressure’ environment where you can have fun, improve your swimming and get fit. It’s never too late to learn to swim, correct your stroke, enter an open water swim or get faster.

I turned 50 recently. Which means the government sent me a bowel screening kit in the post, as they do. My husband, who has never missed an opportunity, immediately went out and bought a family-sized tub of ice cream and announced it could be repurposed as my collection vessel.

He was wrong, obviously. But I’ll admit I wasn’t entirely sure how it all worked before I did it so in the interest of public health and demystifying the whole thing, here is what I can tell you:

You do not fill an ice cream tub. You do not touch anything with your hands. You do not put your hands anywhere near the loo. It is, genuinely, one of the easiest things I have done. The kit tells you exactly what to do, step by step, and the whole thing is far less dramatic than anyone makes it sound.

It’s free. It arrives in the post. And it could give you years more swimming. So when yours shows up and it will please just do it.
Your future self will thank you.

Two new sessions worth knowing about.
We've just added a couple of things to the timetable and thought you should hear about them first.
Wednesday evenings in Busselton — under the lights.
Outdoor pool, night swimming, mixed class (so bring a friend, partner, whoever). It's exactly what it sounds like — a great swim session with good company once the day is done.
Thursday mornings in Margaret River — two new slots.
6am is a mixed session if you've got an early-bird in your life. 9:10am is Mermaids only — and if you're doing the 9 o'clock, the crèche at the rec centre is open, so little ones are sorted.
Both are coached. Both are worth it.
Any questions — you know where to find us.

Someone said something to me recently that stuck.
She asked how easy it actually is to make new friends as a grown woman. Because it's genuinely hard, isn't it? The older we get, the more the natural structures for meeting people quietly disappear.
I didn't have a slick answer. But I did think: this is one of the things Swimming Women does without trying to.
Women show up week after week. They swim next to each other. They cheer for each other's small wins. They try new together and laugh about it. And somewhere in there, without it being the point, friendships form.
It's not a social club. It's a swim group. But it turns out those two things aren't mutually exclusive.
If you've been thinking about joining this is your nudge!

NEW SWIMMING FUNDAMENTALS COURSE STARTS NEXT WEEK
You don't have to be a swimmer to start. You just have to start.
We've had women come to FUNdamentals who haven't swum since school. Women who've been swimming their whole lives but never felt comfortable. Women who said they nearly didn't book because they were embarrassed about where they were starting from.
They all say the same thing afterwards.
Why didn't I do this sooner.

FUNdamentals is our structured freestyle course — breathing, technique, efficiency. It's not about being fast. It's about finally feeling at home in the water.
📍 Margaret River Indoor Pool
🗓 Monday 4 May — 6:30pm
🗓 Tuesday 5 May — 10:20am

Questions welcome. Link in bio to book or goto swimming women.com.au to sign up.

Is it your time to take the plunge?
There's a particular kind of swimmer we see a lot.
She's been meaning to sort out her freestyle for years. She can get from one end to the other, but it doesn't feel good. Or she used to swim and lost it somewhere along the way. Or she's never really swum properly and quietly assumed that ship had sailed.
It hasn't.
FUNdamentals is our structured freestyle course for women who want to actually learn: breathing, technique, efficiency in a fun group where the coaching is exceptional and the vibe is friendly.
📍 Busselton Indoor Pool — Saturday 2 May. Wednesday session sold out
⏰ 8.15am - your time to start the weekend

As a pool swimmer i was afraid being in ‘the sea’ over the years I’ve done some things to help me help - Moving to Australia I had to try. This is what helped most:
🧜‍♀️doing my surf bronze medallion- great way to learn and be supported
🧜‍♀️I assume every hour of every day the same body of water is a new one - I always assess the situation before I get in.
🧜‍♀️I have an exit strategy- I know where I can get out at any point
🧜‍♀️I know the hazards- as many as possible - boats/waves/other swimmers/currents/ cold- and what to do about them
🧜‍♀️I swim with a friend
🧜‍♀️I respect the ocean like it’s my best friend and biggest competitor- I watch listen learn and stay curious

So you feel afraid in the waves or open water? What have you done to feel more confident?
