108 sun salutations completed just after the sun had risen on the shortest day of the year.

108 earthly temptations before you can reach nirvana in Buddhism.

108 Upanishads (sacred texts).

108 mala (prayer) beads.

108 marma points in Ayurveda.

108 times the diameter of the moon is the distance between the earth and the moon.

108 times the diameter of the sun is the distance between the earth and the sun.

108, a number of significance, a number that can take you on quite the journey.

I practiced one salute for the person in front of me; the future of yoga rests in their hands.

I practiced one salute for my beloved friend, teacher and confidant across from me.

I practiced one salute for my neighbour next to me, the next generation of yogis.

I practiced one salute for someone who I love. And one salute for someone I’d like to forgive. I ended up saluting the same person.

I practiced one salute for someone I hated. Turned out I didn’t actually hate them after the salute. And I’m not sure there is someone I truly hate?

I practiced every salute with the presence of my little family nearby.

I practiced for those around me. I practiced for myself. I practiced for the space. I practiced for the love of yoga.

Thank you Emma for holding the space so beautifully and reminding us that we are stronger than what we think, together.

Looking forward to the next one already, although I’ll be resting these hamstrings for a little while!

A little reminder from us: REST AS RITUAL ✨

At Swell, we love inspiring people to move, practice yoga, build resilience, and challenge themselves. In fact, there may or may not be a little yoga challenge brewing behind the scenes... 👀
But today, we want to remind you that rest is just as important as action. And as we’ve shared before, rest isn’t the opposite of productivity, it is often what makes sustainable productivity possible.

There are many different types of rest, and we encourage you to revisit our recent post exploring them. You might discover that what you’re craving isn’t more motivation, but more restoration.

We are Fran, Katie, and Sarah. Over the coming weeks, you’ll get to know us much more; our stories, our journeys, what brought us to Yin, and why we continue to fall in love with this practice over and over again.

But for now, we thought we’d share a little of our official learning: the places we have studied, the trainings we have completed, and the many teachers and traditions that have shaped us (see credentials below for your reading pleasure… and/or pain 😉).

What you can expect when you sit a Yin Yoga Teacher Training with us at Swell Yoga are teachers with decades of combined study and experience, but more importantly, teachers who are still deeply committed to being students. We are constantly reading, researching, questioning, exploring, and finding new ways to present information that is creative, playful, poetic, embodied, and rooted in current understanding.

What our credentials can’t list are the countless lessons we have learned together, and from every student who has sat in our trainings. The conversations, the reflections, the tears, the laughter, the hundreds of different bodies and experiences we have had the privilege to witness and hold.

And perhaps the greatest lesson of all: the more we learn, the more we realise how much we don’t know. The journey of learning is never-ending, and we feel incredibly grateful to be walking it together… continually expanding, evolving, and rising alongside this beautiful yoga community.

We cannot wait to share what we know with you… and continue discovering everything we have yet to learn.
