🍽 Welcome back to The Rec Recipe! Healthy habits, served fresh from the Margaret River Rec Centre.

This fortnight’s serving: Fuel before you move! ⚡

What you eat before exercise can make a big difference to your energy levels, performance and recovery. The key is choosing the right fuel at the right time.

30–60 minutes before exercise:
🍌 Banana & nut butter
🫐 Yoghurt & berries
🍎 Fresh fruit or berries
🍞 Jam or honey on toast
🥜 Dried fruit & nuts

2–3 hours before exercise:
🌯 Chicken wrap
🥣 Overnight oats
🥑 Eggs & avocado toast
🥦 Stir fry

Hot tip: If you're training soon, choose lighter, easy-to-digest snacks. If you've got a few hours before your session, a balanced meal with carbohydrates, protein and healthy fats will help keep you energised.

💧🏑 Pool access update: Margaret River Rumble

The Margaret River Rec Centre is hosting the Margaret River Rumble underwater hockey carnival on Saturday 6 June and Sunday 7 June.

While the action heats up in the pool, there’ll be a few temporary changes to public access:

Saturday 6 June
🚫 No public pool access 12.30pm – 5pm
✅ Swimming lessons will still run as usual

Sunday 7 June
🚫 No pool access 8am – 12pm

Pool days are for family fun – splashing, giggles, snacks and tired kids on the drive home. 🏊😆

We’re a Watch Around Water pool, which means we work with families to keep children safe while they enjoy the water.

Our lifeguards are here to help in an emergency, but the biggest difference comes from parents staying close, watching actively and supervising their children at all times.

Remember – parents supervise, lifeguards save lives. 🫶

🍽 The Rec Recipe is back! Healthy habits, served fresh each fortnight from the Rec Centre.

Confused about carbs? Let’s clear the plate and bust some common myths!

🍞 Carbs are not the enemy:
Carbs don’t automatically lead to weight gain - overall balance, portion size and lifestyle matter most.

🥗 Skipping carbs isn’t the answer:
Your body needs carbs for energy, especially for exercise, brain function and recovery. Cutting them out completely can leave you feeling flat.

⚖️ Low-carb isn’t always best:
What works for one person isn’t one-size-fits-all. The right balance depends on your goals, activity level and health needs.

🌾 Not all carbs are created equal:
Wholegrains, fruits, legumes and veggies provide fibre, vitamins, and long-lasting energy - very different from highly processed options.

With over 35 years of shaking up the studio, Loz is the ultimate fitness time-traveller – from the days of step aerobics to today’s dance beats, she’s been there, done that, and made it fun!

🗓️ Catch her: Wednesday 8.05am and Thursday 9.15am
🎶 Specialty: Old school aerobics & dance
😅 Secret: She still gets butterflies before class (proof even legends get nervous)
💡 Life motto: Just smile and be yourself

💪🍂 New season = new routine! As the weather cools down, we’re heating things up with a few exciting changes to our group fitness timetable.

What’s new?
👋 Say hello to our new Hi-Lo class - where you can work at your own level, weather it be High energy or Low impact.
🧘 We’ve added more of our popular pilates classes.
🏓 For our pickleball crew… Tuesday evening games will now kick off earlier at 5:30pm.
